MUSEUMS HAVE REOPENED THROUGHOUT THE U.S. AND THESE ART PIECES WILL HELP IMMERSE ALL OF YOUR SENSES FOR A HANDS-ON, THRILLING EXPERIENCE.

ARTECHOUSE NYC opened up in Chelsea Market last March, but luckily has just reopened. At the crossroads of art, science and technology, ARTECHOUSE curated an innovative art form that redefines audience participation. It uses seamless megapixel count projections and Hyperreal Sound technology to completely immerse visitors in an image. Their first new exhibition of 2021, Geometric Properties: An Immersive Audio-Visual Journey Through Fractal Dimensions, dares visitors to embark on a cinematic journey where the sheer beauty of mathematics, nature and architecture coincide to inspire introspection. This audio-visual installation by artist Julius Horsthuis presents a new existence: an immersive, eternal reality removed from the complexities of the everyday.

The Museum of Modern Art is located in the heart of Midtown and features spectacular modern art pieces in its galleries. Their new exhibit, Shuzo Azuchi Gulliver’s Cinematic Illusion, is an interactive exhibit running until April 18. The Cinematic Illumination has the effect of transforming frame-by-frame film projection into a 360-degree environment intended to meld with the sound, lights, and moving bodies in the underground venue. Gulliver created the nearly 1,500 slides from film footage of everyday actions and magazine imagery in the 1960s.

The Museum of the Moving Image is located about 15 minutes from midtown and is right next to Kaufman Astoria Studios. The “Behind the Screen” exhibit examines every step of the filmmaking process, with mementos from more than 1,000 different productions, and 14 classic video games that guests can play, including Asteroids and Space Invaders. It boasts an impressive dubbing room that allows visitors to record their voices over the lines spoken by world-renowned actors like Tony Curtis or Marilyn Monroe in the Billy Wilder classic, “Some Like It Hot.” Also, they have a touch-screen station where museum-goers can create their own stop-motion animations.

SPYSCAPE is located in Midtown just a few blocks from the MOMA. In the museum, visitors can view incredible spy innovations such as an original Enigma machine and real life spy gadgets that even Jason Bourne would envy. You can get the real-life spy experience through exciting immersive challenges from lie detector tests to codebreaking to laser tunnels. Their new James Bond exhibit take you into the movie-making magic of the world of 007 through memorabilia, animations, interviews, and iconic imagery.
