COVENT GARDEN’S “LITTLE CLOUD WORLD” BY FRIENDSWITHYOU, FEATURING OVER 40 INFLATABLE CLOUDS, WILL BE ON DISPLAY FROM AUGUST TO OCTOBER 2024, SPREADING A MESSAGE OF KINDNESS AND UNITY. THE INSTALLATION MARKS COVENT GARDEN’S LARGEST PUBLIC ART COMMISSION SINCE 2021 AND IS PART OF A SUMMER PROGRAM SUPPORTING CULTURAL AND CHARITABLE ACTIVITIES. PARTNERED WITH CALM, THE INITIATIVE AIMS TO RAISE AWARENESS AND FUNDS TO COMBAT SUICIDE IN THE UK.

Covent Garden is set to brighten up London’s cultural scene this summer with its first and largest public art installation since 2021: “Little Cloud World” by Los Angeles-based artists Samuel Borkson and Arturo Sandoval III, known as FriendsWithYou. The installation, a joyous array of large-scale art, will be open to the public from August 1st until October 2024.

Taking over the iconic Market Building, “Little Cloud World” features over 40 inflatable ‘floating’ clouds, each over 4 feet tall, creating an enchanting atmosphere. As visitors enter the historic South Hall, they will be greeted by a cheerful array of clouds, inviting them on a ‘happy trail’ throughout the Covent Garden estate. Among the highlights is a giant cloud nestled between the Market Building columns on the North Piazza, offering a playful and uplifting experience.

FriendsWithYou aims to spread kindness, compassion, and a sense of unity through their art. “Covent Garden is one of the most iconic areas in London, recognised around the world,” said the artists. “We were drawn to the creativity of the area and Covent Garden’s support of independent artists and are delighted to be working with them on our first London commission. With the installation, we’re inviting visitors to play, encouraging them to dream of a better, more friendly world that we will create together. We hope it becomes a beacon of love and compassion, and we can’t wait to see how people interact and engage with it.”

FriendsWithYou, the collaborative project of Samuel Borkson and Arturo Sandoval III, has been creating symbols of peace and connectivity for over 20 years. Their iconic Little Cloud has appeared in major public art projects worldwide, including the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade in New York City and the West Kowloon Art Park in Hong Kong. Their work extends beyond public installations, featuring in fine art exhibitions globally and collaborations with international brands.

The launch of “Little Cloud World” heralds a vibrant summer program throughout Covent Garden, home to over 200 stores and 200 bars, restaurants, and cafes. Visitors can enjoy a range of events and experiences, from live screenings of the Olympic Games at the Olympic Terrace on the East Piazza to immersive pop-ups and family-friendly workshops at the London Transport Museum and The Royal Opera House.

“Little Cloud World” is free and open to the public from August 1st until October 2024. Discover more about the installation and the summer program at www.coventgarden.london.
