This holiday season, the heart of Parisian festive magic beats on the Left Bank, where Le Bon Marché Rive Gauche has completed its dazzling transformation into a full-scale Christmas Village. The enchantment begins outside, on Rue de Sèvres, where the department store’s famous windows have become a living storybook. Since their unveiling on November 7, a hundred charming stuffed rabbits have been bustling through scenes filled with humor and poetry.
Watch them manage a grocery store with a dedicated carrot factory, operate a decadent chocolate shop, and even host a fan club for Chantal Goya. Children can climb onto the stage to peer into these whimsical worlds. They can also immerse themselves in a universe that turns a simple window into a destination of its own.
Le Bon Marché’s Holiday Universe
Step through the doors, and the village’s curated spectacle unfolds. To start with, the iconic central escalator now rises as a snow-dusted hamlet. Its steps are flanked by wooden chalets and glowing facades. This architectural transformation extends throughout the main hall, where golden cobblestones line the floor and the air hums with the energy of a genuine market. Vendors in crisp aprons stand at stalls brimming with unique finds; crates and wicker baskets replace standard shelves.
Of course, this theme culminates on the second floor at L’Arbre de Noël. Here, the store presents an exclusive collection of hand-blown, hand-painted glass baubles. Discover themes ranging from The Mountain to Santa’s Workshop, all complemented by a special station for personalizing your own ornaments.
Babel, The Secret Circus After Dark
As the last shoppers leave and the windows darken, a different kind of magic awakens within the store. Every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evening until December 31, Le Bon Marché raises the curtain on Babel, a spellbinding circus and dance show by French Hip-Hop Choreographer Mourad Merzouki.
This is an exclusive, after-hours world. Ten phenomenal circus artists and dancers take over the store’s architecture, weaving through a vertiginous scenography. They make shelves dance and imaginations fly in a powerful performance about a world where differences become a collective strength. Directed by the legendary Merzouki, a figurehead of contemporary hip-hop, Babel is a poetic and energetic “tour de force” that transforms the department store into a place of breathtaking artistry.
