ARMANI PRIVÉ SPRING/SUMMER 2024 COUTURE COLLECTION: A CONTEMPORARY HAUTE COUTURE, PERFECT FOR THE RED CARPET, AN ELEGANT SOIRÉE, OR A REFINED DINNER.

Giorgio Armani, the maestro of glamour, once again orchestrated a star-studded runway show at the forefront of fashion. The Spring/Summer 2024 Couture Collection, unveiled at Palais de Tokyo, wasn’t just for Oscar nominees but also catered to the elite circle of billionaires’ wives.

Over 1,000 fans gathered at the entrance of the “Musée d’art”, keen to catch the arrivals of luminaries such as Gwyneth Paltrow, Glenn Close, Olga Kurylenko, Juliette Binoche, and football legend Ronaldo. Inside, the Armani Privé show unfolded on an alabaster pearl runway, the signature hue of the brand, drawing inspiration from both the East and the West.

A striking innovation was the use of surprisingly high-tech fabrics, from harem pants resembling liquid metal in technical silk to modern organza sheaths that seemed straight out of The Matrix.

What makes Giorgio Armani truly remarkable is his unyielding curiosity for diverse cultures, even at the age of 89, exploring distant realms. This openness stands in stark contrast to the current climate of isolationism in Italy, where the far-right government fosters a rejection of refugees.

The collection blends lace jackets as light as feathers with cascades of multi-layered chiffon, forming an asymmetric skirt that transports us between Bali and the Belle Époque. The entire collection exudes a playful lightness — miles of delicately embroidered lace intertwine with finely crafted appliqués. Armani takes risks with makeup and hair, opting for a pacific blue eyeliner and a cascade of shoulder-length thin braids worn as adornments.

It’s the union of East and West, featuring kimono-style negligees, long skirts, mermaid dresses, small corsets, and long jackets reminiscent of Asian potentates. The aquatic and precious color palette, a fusion of Ko Samui and Capri, showcases pastel coral pink, jade green, faded blue, and soft gold.

Many pieces are crafted from the most sumptuous moiré jacquards. In a nutshell: contemporary haute couture, perfect for the red carpet, an elegant soirée, or a refined dinner.

Unsurprisingly, the 600 attendees rose in unison, showering applause and cheers. The Last Emperor of Fashion hits the mark once again, seamlessly blending the opulence of the East with the allure of the West.
