ART BASEL PARIS IS BACK FROM OCTOBER 18 TO 20, 2024, BIGGER AND BOLDER, READY TO PAINT THE CITY WITH CREATIVITY—FROM THE GORGEOUS GRAND PALAIS TO PARKS, GALLERIES, AND SQUARES ALL OVER THE CAPITAL.

From October 18 to 20, 2024, Art Basel Paris returns, bringing art to every corner of the city. This year’s event is not just limited to the Grand Palais but spreads across Paris, showcasing amazing artwork in galleries, parks, and public spaces.

The iconic Grand Palais, recently restored to its former glory, will once again serve as the main venue for Art Basel Paris. Hosting 195 galleries from 42 countries, including 64 galleries from France, the event will present an impressive array of contemporary art. Visitors can expect to see everything from traditional fine art to experimental installations, offering something for everyone. With the larger space at the Grand Palais this year, the fair will have 27% more exhibitors than last year, ensuring there will be even more to explore.

Notable galleries include Fergus McCaffrey (Tokyo, New York), which will honor the legacy of French art dealer Rodolphe Stadler through works by Japanese artists like Kazuo Shiraga. Meanwhile, Sfeir-Semler (Beirut, Hamburg) will highlight art from the Middle East and North Africa, featuring renowned artists such as Walid Raad and Yto Barrada.

One of the highlights of this year’s fair is a new section called “Premise,” showcasing nine projects that challenge the traditional art historical canon. Look out for rare works by Juliette Roche and Wally Hedrick, which will offer a fresh perspective on avant-garde art.

ART SPREADS ACROSS PARIS

Art Basel 2024 is not confined to the walls of the Grand Palais. Paris itself will transform into an open-air gallery. From major streets to hidden squares, public art installations will be scattered across the city, making art accessible to everyone.

A standout feature will be monumental sculptures by John Chamberlain, Yayoi Kusama, and Jean Prouvé along Avenue Winston-Churchill, which will be closed off to cars, allowing visitors to walk through the area and experience the artworks up close. The Palais of the Institut de France will feature an installation by Niki de Saint Phalle, adding a playful touch to this prestigious location.

Other important stops include the Domaine National du Palais-Royal, where a group exhibition will feature works such as Ghada Amer’s “Paravent Girls” and Heinz Mack’s “Silver Stele.” The blend of historic Parisian architecture with contemporary art will create a unique visual experience.

EXHIBITIONS TO LOOK OUT FOR

There will be a wide range of exhibitions and installations across Paris, each offering something different. Some of the key ones include:

  • Lynn Chadwick’s Solo Exhibition: Located at Hôtel de Sully and Galerie Perrotin, this exhibit will showcase the work of British sculptor Lynn Chadwick, known for his angular, abstract forms.
  • Miu Miu’s Feminine Art Project: At Palais d’Iéna, fashion brand Miu Miu will present an intriguing art project exploring ideas of femininity through film, art, and fashion.
  • Arte Povera Movement Survey: At the Pinault Collection in the Bourse de Commerce, a comprehensive exhibition will delve into the Arte Povera movement, which uses simple, everyday materials to create thought-provoking art.

MORE THAN JUST AN ART FAIR

Art Basel Paris 2024 is more than just an event for buying and selling art; it’s a celebration of creativity that extends into everyday life in Paris. The fair is deepening its collaboration with the city, with iconic locations like the Musée du Louvre, the Petit Palais, and the Palais d’Iéna taking part in the programming. These cultural institutions will host exhibitions and installations that complement the art at the fair, creating a broader experience for visitors.

In addition, Art Basel will have its very own concept store, the Art Basel Shop, where visitors can purchase custom products curated by Sarah Andelman, founder of Just An Idea. It’s the perfect place to pick up unique souvenirs to remember the fair.
