Berlin Fashion Week AW25 Highlights: Talent, Sustainability, and Show-Stopping Events
January 6, 2025 – Berlin Fashion Week
Strategically positioned within the international fashion calendar, Berlin Fashion Week AW2025, scheduled from January 31 to February 3, aims to showcase why Berlin is evolving beyond its reputation for edgy street style to emerge as a true fashion capital. This edition will place even greater emphasis on inclusion, talent promotion, and sustainability.
For the first time, African designers are in the spotlight at Berlin Contemporary. Sustainability standards are being redefined with a new partnership between Berlin and Copenhagen Fashion Weeks. Meanwhile, programs like Studio2Retail and Intervention are pushing the boundaries of what a fashion week can achieve by connecting designers directly with the public and reinventing traditional catwalk formats.
A Stage for Talent
Berlin Fashion Week has made inclusivity its cornerstone. This year, Berlin Contemporary welcomed entries from 91 labels, including international talents from Ghana and Ukraine. The winners, PALMWINE IceCREAM and PLNGNS, will take center stage with their unique collections alongside 17 other innovative brands, with a €25,000 prize backing each label.
Meanwhile, the Studio2Retail program connects audiences with local and international designers, bringing fashion to life across Berlin’s eclectic venues. Supported by grants and brands like Balletshofer and Kitschy Couture, these experiences aim to bridge the gap between designer and consumer.
A Decade of Visionary Design
The 10th anniversary of Der Berliner Salon marks a milestone for German design. Curators Christiane Arp and Marcus Kurz bring together an expanded selection of talent, showcasing bold ideas in a museum setting. Over the past decade, the Salon has shaped Berlin’s identity as a hub for forward-thinking creativity.
Sustainability in Focus
This year introduces Berlin’s Sustainability Requirements, a collaborative effort with Copenhagen Fashion Week. Participating brands undergo rigorous assessments to meet transparency and ethical production standards, reviewed by Studio MM04. The goal? To make sustainability a non-negotiable standard in the industry. The Metamorphosis Talks‘ panels and keynotes on innovation, inclusion, and circular design bring together industry leaders for discussions aiming to drive meaningful change.
New Innovative Formats
Berlin Fashion Week thrives on experimentation. The Intervention format, curated by Reference Studios, reimagines traditional catwalks with daring presentations. Kasia Kucharska’s Future Craft collection leads the lineup with its artisanal techniques.
Meanwhile, the reimagined SEEK trade show introduces a month-long concept with flexible presentation formats across five unique venues in Oranienstraße. This move prioritizes adaptability for brands and buyers.
