Chanel’s Métiers D’art Collection Debuts at a Site Linked to Gabrielle Chanel’s Inspirations.

November 30, 2024- Fashion Weeks, Chanel

Chanel’s Métiers d'Art 2024/25 Collection to Debut at Hangzhou’s Iconic West Lake

Chanel will unveil the Métiers d’Art 2024/25 Collection on December 3, 2024, at Hangzhou’s West Lake, a UNESCO World Heritage site renowned for its cultural significance and natural beauty. The show highlights the exceptional craftsmanship of Chanel’s artisan partners while drawing inspiration from Gabrielle Chanel’s cherished Coromandel lacquer screens, which adorned her Paris apartment.

The West Lake, with its vast 15-kilometer circumference and poetic landscapes, has inspired countless artists and writers throughout history. This legendary site is also prominently featured on one of Gabrielle Chanel’s treasured 19th-century Coromandel screens, which depict the serene beauty of Hangzhou. This screen, located in her office at 31 rue Cambon, Paris, has long been a source of creative inspiration for the Maison.

To celebrate this milestone, Chanel has collaborated with German Filmmaker Wim Wenders and Brand Ambassador Tilda Swinton. In a short film premiering on November 30. Wenders takes viewers on a journey from Gabrielle Chanel’s iconic Parisian office to the enchanting West Lake. Swinton, alongside fellow ambassadors Xin Zhilei and Leah Dou, embodies the Maison’s ethos of elegance and innovation in this poetic narrative. The film serves as both an invitation to the event and a tribute to the cultural and artistic ties between France and China.

Since 2002, Chanel’s Métiers d’Art collections have showcased the unrivaled skill of its artisan partners, from embroiderers to feather makers, at the Maison’s dedicated 19M hub in Paris. Hangzhou’s show continues this legacy, merging Chanel’s French heritage with the artisanal traditions of one of China’s most significant luxury markets.

This year’s event holds special significance as it coincides with the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between France and China. Chanel’s decision to host the show in Hangzhou underscores its commitment to the Chinese market, a vital yet evolving sector for the luxury industry.
