Mens sana in corpore sano: a healthy mind in a healthy body. For Francis Kurkdjian, this quote summarizes in a few words the benefits attributed to cologne which until the middle of the 19th century was also drinkable. It had the double effect of smelling good and doing good.
A defender of the heritage of perfumery, Francis Kurkdjian is above all a free creative spirit and a precursor in many ways. In his creations, he projects his contemporary vision of the perfumer’s craft and its translation into perfume anchored in our time. Thus, when he opened the Maison Francis Kurkdjian Paris in 2009 with Marc Chaya, co-founder and president, he revived the spirit of the eau de Cologne and gave his interpretation with Aqua Universalis, a fresh water for everyone and for everything. Since then, his story has continued and has been enriched by two other olfactory silhouettes, Aqua Vitae and Aqua Celestia.
Today, Francis Kurkdjian is extending this saga and offering three new variations of his Aqua in the Cologne forte collection. Three windows open onto landscapes that call for escape, three invitations to travel to a destination full of light, color and of course freshness. Freshness is the main ingredient in these new pieces of the House’s olfactory wardrobe and is mainly provided by bergamot – the founding ingredient of traditional cologne – which is modulated by different ingredients and accords, without altering the original inspiration.
“FRESHNESS IS TO PERFUME WHAT WATER IS TO LIFE: ESSENTIAL. FRANCIS KURKDJIAN
For Francis Kurkdjian, the main idea behind Cologne forte is to express freshness through the sensations of light. Aqua Universalis Cologne forte is the idea of whiteness pushed to the extreme, a pure breath of fresh air, the sensation of clean, not the smell of clean. Aqua Vitae Cologne forte symbolizes the sun at its zenith with a floral blaze crossed by a breakthrough of hot air. Aqua Celestia Cologne forte is the meeting of the blues of the sea and the sky, a horizon line that invites escape.
