CHRISTIAN DIOR OPTED FOR A LIVE FASHION SHOW LAST MONDAY NIGHT TO PRESENT ITS FALL 2021 PRE-COLLECTION IN FRONT OF AN AUDIENCE OF 1,000 PEOPLE DURING SHANGAI FASHION WEEK
The Parisian Maison’s fashion show took place at the Long Museum West Bund, in the center of Shanghai, with creations inspired by the world of pop and the eclecticism of Elio Fiorucci. The triumph of funk in the Far East, so to speak.
Dior’s creative director, Maria Grazia Chiuri, herself frequented the iconic, avant-garde empire that Elio Fiorucci dedicated to fashion in Milan in the 1970s. This keen sense of whimsy shone through in a collection of fluorescent colors, playing with transparencies, metallic highlights and rock-star looks with pop accents. These different elements were mixed with the famous semi-transparent midi skirts so dear to the designer, as well as sailor sweaters, braided mini-skirts, fishnet tights, metallic Parisian berets and thick-soled ankle boots.
The whole thing was set against the backdrop of a giant disco, with a leopard print staircase, glittering gold walls and huge disco balls. A real night of madness on the Bund, with local stars Zhang Ziyi, Ora Yang and Karry Warry from TFBoys in the front row.
This see-now, buy-now event was live-streamed to 126 million viewers on Dior’s sites and Chinese social platforms like Tmall. Customers will receive their orders in two weeks. This is the first time Dior has paraded a pre-collection.

Maria Grazia Chiuri had already unveiled almost the entire collection in Paris, but she made a splash with four new dresses in Shanghai, consisting of a pleated flared chiffon skirt and a metallic sequin top. Each of the dresses bore one of the letters D, I, O and R. The entire collection, moreover, featured giant sequins and mirror embroidery. The Italian designer also offered a new version of the Bar jacket in a graphic leopard print. The emblematic Lady Dior bag was adorned with silver sequins for the occasion.
