Chiuri Ventures Into the Whimsical World of Alice Through the Looking Glass in Her Spring/Summer 2025 Haute Couture Collection

January 28, 2025- Paris Couture Week, Dior Spring/Summer 2025 Haute Couture Collection

Dior Spring/Summer 2025 Haute Couture:

Maria Grazia Chiuri, Dior’s visionary Creative Director, invites us to step into a whimsical world inspired by Alice Through the Looking Glass. Her Spring/Summer 2025 Haute Couture Collection reimagines childhood fantasies while celebrating Dior’s rich heritage and impeccable craftsmanship.

Chiuri evokes the innocence and imagination of childhood through silhouettes inspired by fantasy and historical references. Nearly a third of the models donned transparent crinolines, resembling birdcages, while others wore voluminous bloomers, reminiscent of the playful costumes from Alice’s adventures.

The “Trapèze” silhouette, designed by Yves Saint Laurent for Dior in 1958, resurfaces in contemporary beige faille coats adorned with trompe-l’œil lace. Similarly, the iconic “Cigale” line from 1952-53 is revived with moiré fabrics but adapted for modernity through shrunken proportions and fitted tailcoats.

A Palette of Quiet Sophistication

Unlike the colorful whimsy of Lewis Carroll’s tales, Chiuri’s interpretation embraces a restrained and understated palette. The collection features shades of ivory, nude, butter yellow, and blush pink, lending a timeless elegance to the playful silhouettes. Chiuri herself remarked, “People who wear colors want to be seen. I prefer the understated sophistication that comes with lighter tones.”

Chiuri’s artistry lies in her ability to balance lightness with structure. The collection showcased hand-crafted details such as tulle corsets, lace-inlaid jacquard gowns, and poetic faille coats. Crinolines, now condensed into ruffled skirts, were paired with delicately structured silk jackets. The collection also nods to punk aesthetics, with models styled in punk-inspired hairstyles adorned with miniature floral details.

A Show Immersed in Fantasy

The show took place under a mesmerizing marquee set in the gardens of the Musée Rodin, where a grand tapestry by artist Rithika Merchant served as the backdrop. Adorned with sacred cows, golden lions, howling wolves, and mythical bird-men. Celebrities like Anya Taylor-Joy, Alexandra Daddario, K-pop star Jisoo, and supermodels Carla Bruni and Karlie Kloss graced the show.

Chiuri described the collection as a reflection of her belief in fashion as a form of personal liberation. “Reality is not a barrier for children. They approach life with a sense of wonder and creativity. That’s the energy I aim to channel into my designs,”.

Dior Spring/Summer 2025 Couture Collection is a tribute to the playful innocence of childhood. It invites us to explore the fantastical possibilities of fashion while staying rooted in the art of craftsmanship.
