A RETROSPECTIVE EXHIBITION OF THE FRENCH FASHION DESIGNER’S CAREER, SHOWCASING HIS UNIQUE STYLE AND VISION FOR WOMEN’S LIBERATION IN FASHION.

In the heart of Provence lies the charming medieval village of Lacoste, where the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) is nestled. From April 3 to June 10, SCAD Lacoste will host an exhibition dedicated to the exceptional French fashion designer, Julien Fournié.

SCAD FASH, a hybrid space between a gallery and a museum, will be transformed into a tribute to Fournié’s remarkable career. With twenty dresses on display, the exhibition Haute Couture, un point c’est tout! traces the designer’s journey from his graduation from Ecole de la Chambre syndicale de la couture parisienne (formerly the IFM) to the founding of his own fashion house.

As a former collaborator of the prestigious houses of Christian Dior, Givenchy, and Jean-Paul Gaultier, Fournié’s unique style incorporates sculptural cuts and a desire to liberate women’s bodies from traditional undergarments. In his designs, Fournié seeks to empower women by freeing them from the constraints of bras and other traditional lingerie.

One of Fournié’s notable achievements was winning the Moët & Chandon prize in 2000. He later founded his own fashion house in 2009, receiving the Grand Prix of Creativity from the city of Paris in the following year.

The exhibition at SCAD Lacoste also showcases Fournié’s innovative approach to fashion technology. In partnership with the FashionLab of Dassault Systèmes, Fournié presented 3D-printed shoes at Paris Fashion Week in July 2014, and later adapted his designs to the metaverse.

If you’re in the South of France this spring, don’t miss the opportunity to discover the visionary work of Julien Fournié at SCAD Lacoste: Haute Couture, un point c’est tout!
