DISCOVER THE LIFE AND LEGACY OF DIANE VON FÜRSTENBERG: A RETROSPECTIVE EXHIBITION OF THE ICONIC WRAP DRESS AND PHILANTHROPIC FASHION DESIGNER AT THE FASHION & LACE MUSEUM IN BRUSSELS

The illustrious Diane von Fürstenberg has once again captivated the fashion world with her iconic wrap dress, which is now on display at the prestigious Fashion & Lace Museum in Brussels. The exhibition, entitled “Diane von Furstenberg, Woman Before Fashion,” offers the first international retrospective dedicated to the Belgian-American designer, who has inspired women around the globe with her revolutionary dress.

Crafted from wrinkle-free, lightweight jersey material, the wrap dress represents a perfect combination of practicality and sensuality with its adjustable V-neckline, skirt, and top merging into a single garment. Michelle Obama and Amy Winehouse are just some of the notable figures who have donned the wrap dress with poise and elegance.

The exhibition features 50 exquisite models and archival footage that illustrates the illustrious career of Diane von Fürstenberg, whose journey began in Italy before relocating to the United States. Her designs, inspired by abstract art and architecture, have made her an embodiment of the American feminine dream. She also led the Council of Fashion Designers of America and was bestowed with the Légion d’honneur in France.

Aside from her remarkable contributions to fashion, von Fürstenberg is also a dedicated philanthropist, championing sisterhood with the DVF Awards. The scholarship, launched in 2010, honors extraordinary women who have made a significant impact on society.

The exhibition runs from April 21, 2023, to January 7, 2024, at the Fashion & Lace Museum, located near the designer’s former residence.
