DISCOVER THE RICH HISTORY OF VICENZA’S CERAMIC CRAFTSMANSHIP AT A NEW EXHIBITION

Vicenza, celebrated globally for its goldsmithing tradition, is shining a new light on its rich artistic heritage through ceramic art. The Museo del Gioiello, nestled in the Basilica Palladiana in Piazza dei Signori, is hosting a compelling temporary exhibition titled “1949-1975: Ceramics between Design and Artistic Experimentation. A Parallel History to the Fiera dell’Oro.” Running from September 5 to December 8, 2024, this showcase dives deep into the world of Vicenza ceramics, revealing a side of the city’s creative prowess beyond its renowned goldsmithing.

Curated by the Museo Civico della Ceramica “Giuseppe de Fabris” of Nove, the exhibition features 27 exceptional pieces from the historical collection of the Fiera di Vicenza, now part of the Italian Exhibition Group (IEG). These creations, awarded during the trade fair between 1949 and 1975, illustrate a period of significant artistic and design innovation. The Fiera di Vicenza, pivotal in promoting local craftsmanship, was instrumental in elevating Vicenza ceramics on both national and international stages, attracting renowned artists and designers.

Michela Amenduni, Management Director of the Museo del Gioiello, emphasizes the importance of this exhibition: “Ceramic art is a testament to the roots of Vicenza’s gold fair, representing a cornerstone of our cultural heritage. We are thrilled to present this tradition and highlight its significance, positioning our museum as a key promoter of our artistic legacy.”

Luca Rebellato, Mayor of Nove, adds, “The collection reflects a vibrant period of artistic and industrial innovation. This exhibition allows visitors to explore Vicenza’s rich ceramic heritage and celebrates the artists who have pushed the boundaries of ceramic design. It underscores Nove’s role as a significant international center for ceramic art.”

The exhibition is included with the entrance ticket to the Museo del Gioiello, Italy’s premier museum dedicated exclusively to goldsmithing and jewellery. Visitors can also explore a vast array of over 250 goldsmith creations, along with a dynamic program of guided tours, educational activities, and creative workshops for all ages.

This exhibition traces the evolution of Vicenza’s ceramic industry as well as honors the city’s role as a prominent exhibition hub. It coincides with the 70th anniversary of IEG’s gold fairs, underscoring Vicenza’s continued influence in the global precious metals market with events like Vicenzaoro.
