Kinugawa Rive Gauche Captures the Left Bank’s Golden Hour With Skyline Views and Japanese Cuisine

June 6, 2025- Paris Trendy Restaurants, Kinugawa Rive Gauche

The Kinugawa name is already synonymous with sleek Franco-Japanese dining in Paris, thanks to its cult-favorite addresses at Vendôme and Matignon. Now, it crosses the Seine for its most cinematic location yet, Kinugawa Rive Gauche. Perched atop the newly opened Hôtel SAX in the 7th arrondissement.

Set across the top two floors, the restaurant and rooftop span a generous footprint: 180 seats indoors and space for 200 more on the panoramic terrace, which opens in full just as Paris slips into summer. From here, the Eiffel Tower reveals itself in full golden-hour glory, framed by Haussmannian rooftops and the kind of lighting that begs for long dinners and longer toasts.

A Space Designed for the Moment

Kinugawa Rive Gauche is all about the vantage point. Inside, the space is layered in warm sunset tones: rust, ochre, and bronze meet fluted wood, mirrored accents, and curved banquettes. A sweeping U-shaped counter offers front-row seats to the action. While the central bar delivers cocktails that finally meet the moment, no watered-down Negronis here. Expect elevated blends with shiso, umeshu, and yuzu standing in for the usual suspects.

Franco-Japanese, Reimagined

The menu honors the Kinugawa DNA: clean flavors, impeccable plating, and a confidence that feels distinctly Parisian. Signature dishes include the now-iconic miso-marinated black cod, toro sashimi with citrus ponzu, and a surprising taruto galette with salmon and white truffle. Bento boxes make a strong midday showing. Unexpected pairings like a wagyu burger or sashimi salad with blueberries add playful notes to the otherwise refined lineup.

Come for the View, Stay for the Vibe

Whether you’re here for a contemplative lunch or a twilight dinner with the Eiffel Tower winking in the distance, Kinugawa Rive Gauche is designed to linger. It’s an elegantly choreographed scene, effortlessly photogenic, and just unpredictable enough to keep the crowd coming back.
