A Fusion of Wood and Leather Transforms Everyday Objects Into Sculptural Statements of Design

April 13, 2025 – Longchamp x Pierre Renart Capsule Collection at Milan Design Week 2025

On Via della Spiga, walnut spirals unfold like sketches in motion, shaping a space of quiet elegance. Here, Longchamp and French designer Pierre Renart reunite, four years after their first collaboration, to present a capsule collection embodying French savoir-faire. At Milan Design Week 2025, fashion and design engage in a fluent exchange, brought to life through the Wave cuir banquette and a limited set of Ruban chaises, which turn fluidity into form.

The work of Renart, a master cabinetmaker, is on full display. His pieces evoke a sense of timelessness, where wood and leather find new purpose. The Wave cuir banquette, with its fluid, contoured lines, transforms raw material into sculptural expression. The Ruban chaises, with their bold, geometric arcs, challenge the traditional view of furniture as simply functional. Instead, Renart’s work feels dynamic, in constant movement, echoing the pulse of the Longchamp brand itself.

The collaboration speaks to a deeper conversation between the two creatives. Longchamp’s ethos of refinement and craftsmanship anchors the collection, yet it’s Renart’s contemporary approach that brings it to life in new, unexpected ways. Sculptures pieces in a dialogue with the body, with the space they inhabit, and with the viewer.

Craftsmanship in Conversation

Longchamp’s partnership with Pierre Renart is a natural extension of the brand’s commitment to craftsmanship. Renart’s mastery of wood, honed through years of study and practice, is complemented by Longchamp’s signature leather expertise. These two materials, once distinct in their own right, come together in a way that respects their individual qualities while pushing them into new realms of possibility.

The use of walnut in Renart’s designs speaks to a quiet sophistication, its rich tones providing a deep contrast to the supple leather that wraps the Wave cuir banquette. The leather, with its softness and flexibility, invites interaction, while the walnut offers a grounding, structural presence. Together, they evoke a sense of harmony, as if the materials themselves are in conversation.

Sophie Delafontaine, Longchamp’s Creative Director, speaks of the challenge she set for Renart: to create light fluid pieces despite the weight of the materials. The result is a collection that balances grace with precision, where the eye is drawn not just to the form, but to the way the materials interact with light and space. There’s a fluidity in the curves of the Wave cuir, a movement that mimics the natural flow of water. The Ruban chaises, with their intertwining lines, suggest the rhythm of the body, designed for comfort and beauty in equal measure.

For Renart, this collaboration is an exploration of the intersection between craft, form, and function. “The challenge was to find common ground between two disciplines,” he explains. “Longchamp’s leather is a material I had never worked with before, and it forced me to push my techniques further. The aim was to bring these materials together without losing their essence.”

Crafting Fluidity in Design

This collaboration speaks to Longchamp’s ongoing push for innovation. The brand has long merged fashion with art, and with Renart, it ventures into a new territory, creating functional objects. Together, they crafted a refined collection that transforms everyday objects into sculptural statements.
