AS THE PARIS OLYMPICS APPROACH, THE CITY IS ABUZZ WITH CULTURAL AND SPORTING EVENTS. AMONG THE HIGHLIGHTS IS NIKE’S INNOVATIVE TAKEOVER OF THE CENTRE POMPIDOU, RUNNING FROM JULY 24 TO AUGUST 11, 2024. THIS UNIQUE COLLABORATION CELEBRATES THE INTERSECTION OF SPORT AND ART, PERFECTLY TIMED WITH THE GRAND SPECTACLE OF THE GAMES.

Nike has dramatically transformed the facade of the Centre Pompidou, installing a massive canvas that displays videos and animations featuring athletes alongside the museum’s masterpieces. Visible from as far as the Sacré-Cœur, this vibrant and colorful screen is a testament to the grandeur of the Paris Olympics.

The centerpiece of Nike’s presence at the Centre Pompidou is the “Art of Victory” exhibition. Named after the Greek goddess Nike, symbolizing victory and triumph, the exhibit celebrates the innovation behind Nike Air technology. The iconic Air Max 1, launched in 1987, drew design inspiration from the architectural elements of the Centre Pompidou itself, with its transparent structure revealing what is usually hidden, much like the air bubble in the shoe.

This exhibition, open by reservation, offers visitors an in-depth look at the evolution of Nike Air and the symbiotic relationship between the brand and the Centre Pompidou. It’s a celebration of nearly 40 years of shared history, innovation, and bold design.

Beyond the exhibition, Nike has curated a series of daily sports activities at the Centre Pompidou, designed to engage the public in the spirit of the Paris Olympics. From running and basketball to football and breakdancing, there’s something for everyone. A standout feature is the sculptural skatepark, “Cycloid Piazza,” created by French artist Raphael Zarka in collaboration with architect Jean-Benoît Vétillard. This artistic skatepark is not just a place to skate but a piece of art itself, merging the worlds of contemporary art and urban sports.

Tinker Hatfield, the legendary designer behind the Air Max, reflects on the significance of this partnership: “The message of this collaboration is to move forward and be bold when you have a great idea. Be at least a little disruptive so people notice what you’re doing. This is true for both the building and the Air Max 1. Technology is important, but it’s the bold act that captures everyone’s attention.”

In line with the inclusive spirit of the Paris Olympics, access to the “Art of Victory” exhibition and the Centre Pompidou’s permanent collection will be free for visitors under 26 throughout the event. Registration is required for the exhibition and sports activities, ensuring an organized and enjoyable experience for all attendees.
