In few weeks, the major work undertaken at the Cointreau Distillery since January 2020 will come to an end. A whole new tour, immersive and multisensory, will then be inaugurated, retracing the story of an Angevin brand that has become international. From the genesis of Maison Cointreau to the presence of the iconic orange liqueur in the greatest cocktails, it is a journey through time and across the world that awaits visitors.

As of July 10th, curious, spirits enthusiasts and heritage lovers will be invited to immerse themselves in the secrets of the famous Angevin orange liqueur through a course in seven chapters. From a unique know-how transmitted from generation to generation, the exploration of a formidable advertising creativity or the discovery of mythical cocktails, the Cointreau Distillery is revealed as never before before.

First of all, in a hall dedicated to the first explorations of Édouard Cointreau, creator of the famous liqueur that bears his name, the visitor is invited to the man’s studio where he explores the dreamlike genesis of the brand through the initiatory story of the liquorist and distiller from Angevin. Temple of the know-how of Maison Cointreau, the Distillery, its scent of orange liqueur and its 19 majestic copper stills are then revealed to the public, who can discover the different stages of distillation specific to the House.

The new Mezzanine, which offers a breathtaking view of the distillery, now offers a unique olfactory experience around orange peels, an essential and precious element of Edouard Cointreau’s recipe. Visitors are thus introduced to the complexity, richness and power of the liqueur’s aromas, an unforgettable multisensory experience.


Then, visitors can go to “Chez les Cointreau”, a surprising cabinet of curiosities, to discover the family history and its generations of entrepreneurs and visionaries from Anjou. It is their sensibility of transmission, combined with the family precursor spirit, that has helped transform a family name into an international brand. Follows the surprising advertising retrospective highlighting iconic archive pieces, such as the works of poster artists Henri Gustave Jossot and Charles Loupot, as well as those of Jean-Adrien Mercier, famous illustrator of the interwar period and grandson of Édouard, thanks to whom the brand’s image was modernized.

With this new route, Maison Cointreau invites Angers, French and international audiences to the heart of its history, born and propelled in Angers.
To (re) discover the Cointreau Distillery, four offers of visits – individual or in groups – are available and adapt to the desires of each one: from the classic visit (L’Instant Cointreau) for a first initiation to the cocktail workshop ( Du Zeste au shaker) to learn how to handle the shaker like a pro, each of the offers combines a visit to the distillery and a cocktail experience.
