Guerlain‘s Iconic Bottle through the Eyes of Female Photographers” – Following the release of a beautiful book by Assouline, Guerlain, the renowned fragrance house founded in 1828, continues to celebrate the 170th anniversary of its iconic “bee” bottle with an imperial retrospective titled “Chère Eugénie.” Presented in their boutique on the Champs-Élysées, the exhibition showcases the works of eleven female photographers who were given carte blanche to reinterpret this cologne bottle created in honor of the young empress. Internationally acclaimed artists such as Orlan, Audrey Tautou, Delphine Diallo, and Charlotte Rampling have participated in this captivating project. The exhibition, titled “Chère Eugénie,” is open until September 4th at 68 Avenue des Champs-Élysées in Paris, 8th arrondissement.
FRANK HORVAT PARIS, THE WORLD, FASHION AT JEU DE PAUME – PARIS

Frank Horvat: Immortalizing Sixties Fashion – The Jeu de Paume presents a retrospective exhibition dedicated to renowned fashion photographer Frank Horvat, showcasing his iconic images capturing the styles of the sixties. From floral bikinis on the sunny beaches of Rio de Janeiro to Coco Chanel sneaking a glimpse of her own fashion show, Horvat’s analog prints beautifully captured the fashion trends of the era. The exhibition, titled “Frank Horvat. Paris, the World and Fashion,” explores the liberation of bodies, the rise of new women’s clothing after the war, and Horvat’s illustrious career working for top fashion magazines. With one-hundred-and-seventy prints and seventy archival documents, this exhibition offers a unique perspective on Horvat’s work and his significant contributions to French and European photography.

Curated by Marie-Laure Gutton and assisted by Samy Jelil, the exhibition features around 200 works from the museum’s collections, spanning from the 18th century to the present day. The exhibition highlights the transformation of sportswear into specialized clothing, the adaptation of women’s wear for physical activity, and the incorporation of sportswear into everyday fashion. It also emphasizes the impact of physical activity on changing mentalities and beauty standards, showcasing the distinct silhouettes of three centuries of fashion history, including swimming costumes, cycling outfits, motoring coats, jogging suits, and sneakers. In anticipation of the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris, the exhibition explores the role of clothing in physical and sporting activities, examining its social consequences and the liberation of the body through movement.

The exhibition features rarely-seen pieces, including a Cubist-inspired jacket from his fall 1988 Rive Gauche collection, reflecting his mastery of monochromatic compositions and bold geometric assemblies. Spanning from Beethoven to Madonna, zydeco to John Cage, Louis Armstrong to the Zulu Nation, Basquiat’s visual work is illuminated by the diverse sounds that influenced him. Emerging from the vibrant artistic community of late-1970s New York, Basquiat was deeply connected to the no-wave and hip-hop movements, both musically and culturally. His immersion in these genres, coupled with his reverence for jazz and its African-American heritage, shaped his paintings and compositions. The exhibition offers an immersive experience, showcasing nearly one hundred artworks alongside rare archival documents, instruments, and audiovisual media.
