Borsalino Introduces Black Iris, a Perfume Crafted to Echo Its Savoir-Faire in a New Form

February 20, 2025 – Luxury Perfume, Borsalino Black Iris Perfume

At first glance, Borsalino is a name woven into the history of fine hat-making and the quiet confidence of Italian savoir-faire. But for those paying attention, the storied house has been writing a new narrative—one that extends far beyond its signature brims. After stepping into eyewear with a capsule collection unveiled at Mido, Borsalino now ventures into the world of fragrance with Black Iris, a scent that carries the weight of its heritage while signaling a new chapter.

“Fragrance, like a hat, is deeply personal,” says Mauro Baglietto, Borsalino’s General Manager. “It’s an extension of one’s identity, a mark of elegance that lingers beyond presence. We wanted Black Iris to be exactly that—something timeless yet contemporary.”

Translating Craftsmanship Into Scent

Borsalino turned to an unmistakable duo to bring its olfactory identity to life: Chantal Roos, the legendary mind behind fragrances that have shaped modern perfumery—from Yves Saint Laurent’s Opium to Jean Paul Gaultier’s Le Mâle—and Nicolas Bonneville, a rising perfumer redefining the codes of scent design. Together, they set out to bottle the world of Borsalino.

The name Black Iris is symbolic- Iris, one of perfumery’s most precious ingredients, carries a complexity that mirrors the Maison’s own evolution. In this composition, it unfolds between fresh top notes of bergamot, cardamom, and geranium, a heart of vanilla and carrot seed, and a structured base of cedarwood and ambery woods. The result is elegant yet modern, a fragrance with presence but no excess—much like the brand itself.

“From the start, we weren’t just creating a perfume; we were shaping a vision,” says Arthur Cukier, COO of DPLG. “Borsalino understands how scent is intertwined with identity, and Black Iris is designed to feel like a signature.”

Black Iris debuted in 14 duty-free locations, a deliberate nod to the brand’s international clientele. Cities like Paris, Rome, Venice, London, and Prague marked its first steps. Next month, it will expand globally.

The flacon, understated yet refined, is available in 50ml (€85) and 100ml (€105). Its minimalist design allows the scent to take center stage. However, this is just the beginning. Later this year, Borsalino will introduce White Iris, a softer, more luminous counterpart.
