Dreams of This Future: The Collection of Peggy Cooper Cafritz
Dreams of This Future brings together a selection of works from a historic gift to the Studio Museum in Harlem by Peggy Cooper Cafritz (1947–2018) to celebrate her legacy as an advocate for the arts. A patron, educator, and civil rights activist, Cafritz built two art collections during her lifetime. The first was largely destroyed in a 2009 fire; the second was amassed in the seven years prior to her death. Both collections spoke to her unyielding commitment to artists of African descent. Voracious in her interests, Cafritz collected across mediums—with paintings, photographs, sculptures, textiles, and works on paper represented in this exhibition—but with a firm commitment to championing artists from the earliest stages of their careers. Work by Titus Kaphar and Deana Lawson is included.

The Petit Palais presents Eva Gonzalès: A Free-Spirited Artist from September 15, 2026, to January 24, 2027, with the first major retrospective devoted to the French painter Eva Gonzalès.

The exhibition brings together almost 100 paintings, pastels and prints, tracing the development of an artist who established her own voice within the Parisian art world of the late 19th century.

The Artist’s Attire: From Rosa Bonheur to Sonia Delaunay

The Musée Bourdelle presents L’étoffe de l’artiste. De Rosa Bonheur à Sonia Delaunay from September 23, 2026, to January 24, 2027, examining how artists used clothing to construct their public image from the late 19th to the mid-20th century.

The exhibition pairs garments worn by artists including Gustav Klimt, Rosa Bonheur, Foujita, Sonia Delaunay and Camille Bernier with paintings, sculptures, photographs and works on paper. From studio smocks and workwear to carefully styled public appearances, clothing becomes part of the way artists defined their identity, challenged convention and presented themselves to the world.

The show also looks at artists who treated dress as an extension of their creative practice, including Sonia Delaunay, whose use of color and geometric pattern crossed between painting, textiles and fashion.

Presented at the Musée Bourdelle with support from the Musée des Arts Décoratifs and the Musée d’Orsay, the exhibition places fashion inside a broader history of artistic self-presentation rather than treating clothing simply as costume.
