Bonnard Intime — Les Toilettes de Marthe at Musée Bonnard, Le Cannet

At the Musée Bonnard in Le Cannet, Bonnard Intime: Les Toilettes de Marthe explores the private world of Marthe Bonnard, the wife and muse Pierre Bonnard painted repeatedly through bathing, dressing, and moments at her toilette. The exhibition brings together paintings, drawings, and works on paper that follow these intimate rituals, while also introducing an olfactory element through Maison Godet’s Fleurs de Reine.

Perfumer Julien-Joseph Godet created Fleurs de Reine specifically for Marthe in 1908, using tuberose and cold enfleurage, a traditional extraction technique designed to preserve the flower’s scent without heat. More than a century later, Sonia Godet, his great-granddaughter, revived the fragrance with natural materials and tuberose grown in Grasse.

Historic Maison Godet flacons appear alongside Fleurs de Reine, bringing the perfume back into the same intimate world Bonnard painted around Marthe. The scent belonged to her bathing and dressing rituals in 1908; now it sits beside the images that preserved those moments.
