MISS DIOR EXHIBITION CELEBRATES 12 WOMEN ARTISTS AND VARIOUS INTERPRETATIONS OF THE FRAGRANCE

OCTOBER 15 TO NOVEMBER 1ST, 2021 AT THE CHÂTEAU DE LA COLLE NOIRE DE MONSIEUR DIOR, THE COUTURIER’S HOME, OPEN TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC, FOR THE FIRST TIME

Staying true to the couturier’s passion for art and women, which never ceased to inspire his creativity, Maison Christian Dior has brought twelve women from the international art scene together for an exceptional carte blanche exhibition, inviting them to express their vision of the iconic Miss Dior bottle, its spirit, and its emblematic design codes.

“We decided to create the Miss Dior exhibition to pay tribute to Dior, who imagined this perfume one summer evening, right here at the Colle Noire, thinking about his sister Catherine. So we thought it was a good idea to ask these women artists to reflect on the very origins of Miss Dior, right here, in this very special place,” explained Jérôme Pulis, Director of International Communications for Christian Dior fragrances.

Miss Dior remains Dior’s most iconic fragrance, ever since the day Christian Dior sprayed an entire liter of it on the stairs and salons of Avenue Montaigne, to welcome guests who came to attend his first fashion show, the legendary New Look collection presented on February 12, 1947.

The timing of this exhibition coincides with the publication of Miss Dior, Muse and Resistance fighter, a book by renowned fashion editor and author Justine Picardie. The book details the exceptional life of Christian’s youngest sister, Catherine Dior. Botanist, rose lover, muse and courageous member of the French resistance, she was tortured by the SS in Paris and then sent to the Ravensbruck camp, from which she returned alive. When she returned to the Gare de l’Est in 1945, she was so emaciated that her older brother Christian was unable to recognize her. After nursing her back to health for two years, Christian would name his first perfume Miss Dior.

Maison Dior acquired Chateau Colle Noire in 2013, and opened it to fashion editors and VIPs two years later, after carefully restoring it. However, the Colle Noire has always held a special place in Dior iconography, and in fashion history.

Forty-five minutes northwest of Cannes, the château is a magnificent example of Monsieur’s many influences – grand neoclassical, authentic Provençal style, and Haute bourgeoisie chic. The building originally served as a postal sorting office, before becoming a small stone chateau, and then being purchased by Dior in 1950. Dior doubled its size and built a new entrance with an avenue of carefully spaced pine trees to give a greater sense of distance.
