Step Aboard Louis Vuitton’s Murakami-inspired Trams Featuring a Cinema and a Café
January 10, 2025 – Louis Vuitton x Murakami Trams in Milan
Two decades ago, Louis Vuitton revolutionized luxury fashion with a collaboration that forever changed luxury fashion. Under Marc Jacobs’ visionary direction, the Maison partnered with Japanese artist Takashi Murakami to reimagine its iconic monogram. Murakami brought his hyper-pop aesthetic—vivid florals, playful characters, and bold colors—into the world of luxury, transforming handbags and accessories into wearable art. The collection redefined fashion’s relationship with contemporary art and captured the early 2000s’ youthful energy.
Fast-forward to 2025, and Louis Vuitton is celebrating this game-changing partnership with a spectacular relaunch of the Louis Vuitton x Murakami collection. The comeback unfolds in three chapters: the first, arriving in January, features over 170 pieces. A cherry blossom-inspired range follows in March, bringing elegance to spring, while the final chapter, launching mid-year, introduces a collection of vibrant designs and impeccable craftsmanship.
As part of the relaunch, pop-up stores will open across Europe and Asia to immerse fans in Louis Vuitton x Murakami‘s vibrant world. In Milan, the brand goes further by transforming two historic trams into living art.
From January 8 to 28, 2025, these early 20th-century trams, starting from Piazza Castello and Piazza Fontana, take passengers on a journey through Murakami’s vision. The exteriors are adorned with his signature vibrant flowers intertwined with the Louis Vuitton monogram, turning the streets of Milan into a mobile art gallery.
Experience the Louis Vuitton x Murakami Trams
Aboard these iconic trams, and you’ll find two distinct worlds waiting to immerse you in the vision of Louis Vuitton x Murakami.
The Cinema Tram, wrapped in vibrant blue, transforms into a rolling theater. Inside, plush seating faces large screens playing Murakami’s animated short films, Superflat Monogram (2003) and Superflat First Love (2009). These whimsical stories take you on a journey through a surreal, monogram-filled universe where Murakami’s artistry and Louis Vuitton’s legacy intertwine. The cinematic atmosphere is both cozy and avant-garde, creating an experience that feels intimate yet extraordinary.
The Café Tram, in contrast, is a kawaii-inspired wonderland. Bathed in candy pink, the interiors feature playful floral cushions, circular tables, and curated art books showcasing Murakami’s creative universe. Guests are served hibiscus and raspberry bubble tea in custom-designed Murakami cups, paired with panda-shaped cookies that are as delicious as they are Instagram-worthy. The café is a perfect fusion of Japanese charm and Louis Vuitton’s iconic sophistication.
