A NEW DYNAMIC, A NEW CONCEPT, THE LOUNGES OF THE SHANGRI-LA PARIS WILL HOST A CHAMPAGNE BAR OPEN EVERY DAY FROM 2PM TO 10PM, STARTING NOVEMBER 8, 2021.
ON THE MENU, A SELECTION OF SIX CHAMPAGNES BY THE GLASS, WHICH VARY WITH THE SEASONS, ACCORDING TO THE CHEF SOMMELIER’S FAVORITES.
At the Shangri-La Paris, every bar has its own ritual: you can now experience the sabrage de champagne every day at 7pm. A historical technique, which became popular during the reign of Napoleon Bonaparte, and which today offers a trip back in time to all lovers of French art de vivre. At the time, after each victory, the hussars, horsemen of the Napoleonic army, opened the bottles of champagne “à la hussarde“. To celebrate the victory, they would uncork the bottle with a masterful gesture, blowing the neck of the bottle with their saber, hence the expression “sabrer le champagne”.
On the occasion of one of these great celebrations, Napoleon is even said to have declared: “I only drink on two occasions, in victory to celebrate and in defeat to console myself”. The introduction of this ritual is a new way of paying tribute to the first master of the premises of our Parisian residence, Roland Bonaparte, who inspired the name of the bar adjoining the Lounges, Le Bar Botaniste. Napoleon’s grand-nephew was an outstanding collector and scientist who had the largest private herbarium in the world, consisting of over 2,500,000 specimens, now on display at the University of Lyon.
You will also discover the pastry cart of Pastry Chef Maxence Barbot who displays a selection of his gourmet creations such as L’Eclat vanille et noix de pécan, Flan Parisien or Paris Brest Noisette Sarrasin, to be enjoyed on the spot or to take away.
A menu of sweet and savory dishes is also available from 2pm to 6pm.
From 6pm, it’s time for an aperitif and Dim Sum, Mini Croque-Monsieur with black truffle, Gambas Torpedo in Tempura, as well as cold dishes or a selection of caviar from Kaviari Paris take over from the hungry.
The season promises to be festive and gourmet in the Lounges of Shangri-La Paris!
