DISCOVER THE INSPIRING JOURNEY OF SESSÙN, FROM A PASSION PROJECT IN SOUTH AMERICA TO A FRENCH FASHION FAVORITE WITH A GLOBAL IMPACT.

The Sessùn story began with a trip. In the mid-90s, Emma François-Grasset was a 21-year-old anthropology student traveling through South America. Inspired by the rich textile traditions she encountered in Guatemala, she decided to create a fashion brand that celebrated craftsmanship and culture. In 1996, armed with a micro-loan, she launched Sessùn.

The brand’s early collections mixed bohemian vibes with chic, feminine touches. And it worked. Sessùn quickly caught the attention of fashion lovers and the press. Its relaxed yet polished style became an instant hit. The designs—flowy palazzo pants, soft knits, and embroidered blouses—were inspired by Emma’s global travels, from South America to Japan. Each piece felt effortless, yet unique, and the collections struck the perfect balance between cool and comfortable.

Sessùn became a favorite because it offered something different. The brand didn’t chase fleeting trends but instead focused on timeless pieces with a twist. Its signature blend of Parisian chic with global influences resonated with women looking for clothes that were feminine without being fussy. Sessùn’s style is a mix of relaxed silhouettes, earthy tones, and delicate details, which makes it both versatile and distinctive.

But the appeal goes deeper than aesthetics. Sessùn’s customers love its commitment to quality and ethics. The brand works with skilled artisans to create beautifully crafted clothing, often incorporating hand-embroidery and natural materials. Sessùn’s focus on sustainability is another reason people are drawn to it. From the beginning, Emma François-Grasset made a point to produce responsibly, favoring ethical manufacturing processes and supporting small, traditional artisans. In a world of fast fashion, Sessùn’s slow, thoughtful approach stands out. In 2020, Sessùn’s dedication was recognized with a B-Corp certification, a mark of its positive social and environmental impact.

As Sessùn grew, so did its offerings. The brand expanded beyond clothing to include accessories, leather goods, and even a bridal line called Sessùn Oui. The collections always stayed true to their roots, keeping that laid-back yet refined vibe. Fans of the brand love how easy the clothes are to wear—they feel stylish without having to try too hard. There’s a sense of nostalgia in Sessùn’s pieces, but they’re designed for modern women. Whether it’s a breezy dress for summer or a cozy cardigan for fall, each item is made with care and built to last.

Sessùn’s retail journey began in 2004 with its first boutique in Paris, on Rue de Charonne. The store was designed to be more than just a shopping destination; it was a lifestyle hub, mixing fashion with home decor and local art. This concept spread across France, with boutiques popping up in cities like Biarritz, Lyon, and Bordeaux. Each store reflects the brand’s ethos, blending bohemian elements with contemporary design. The flagship concept store Sessùn Alma in Marseille, for example, offers clothing and handcrafted decor, limited-edition art, and even workshops where customers can learn traditional crafts.

By 2017, Sessùn expanded internationally, opening stores in London, Madrid, and Berlin, among others. Today, Sessùn has over 50 stores worldwide and is stocked by more than 400 retailers. Around 40% of its business now comes from international markets, as more and more people discover the brand’s effortless style and sustainable practices. Despite its growth, Sessùn has remained true to its origins, with Emma François-Grasset still at the helm as both creative director and CEO.
