FROM “LA TRAVERSÉE DES APPARENCES” AT THE CENTRE POMPIDOU TO “EPHEMERAL UNIVERSE: EXPLORING THE BOUNDARIES WITHIN’ BY ALIVE & MORE, PARIS HOSTS A SPELLBINDING MIX OF FASHION AND ART, REDEFINING BOUNDARIES AND CELEBRATING THE EPHEMERAL IN THE HEART OF THE FASHION CAPITAL

Parallel to Paris Fashion Week, two new exhibitions harmoniously blend fashion and artistic creation. Explore the realms of “La traversée des apparences” and “L’univers éphémère: Exploring the Boundaries Within”, which interweave these two worlds in January.

LA TRAVERSÉE DES APPARENCES AT CENTRE POMPIDOU: A CHROMATIC DIALOGUE

Following the success of Yves Saint Laurent’s installation at the Museums in 2022, the Centre Pompidou will host its upcoming exhibition ‘La traversée des apparences’ from January 24 to April 22, 2024. Curated by Laurence Benaïm, a fashion journalist and author, the exhibition aims to foster a “chromatic and conceptual” dialogue between fashion pieces and artworks from the collection of the National Museum of Modern Art.

On the 5th level, you will encounter a journey marked by seventeen fashion creations, ranging from renowned couturiers like Chanel, Issey Miyake, Jean-Paul Gaultier, Christian Dior, Iris van Herpen, and Azzedine Alaïa to emerging talents such as Thebe Magugu and Charles de Vilmorin.

Benaïm describes the exhibition as “a journey in the form of chromatic and formal conversations, reminiscences, and encounters punctuated by ruptures that mark the history of the 20th and 21st centuries. It goes beyond the limits to redefine stylistic vocabularies on both ends. A story of correspondences more than similarities, elective affinities, and obsessions. Beyond the eternal question (Is it art?) and all justifications that fashion inspires: a tribute to those inner forces without which there is no right to dare, to transcribe dreams by dressing them.”

EPHEMERAL UNIVERSE: EXPLORING THE BOUNDARIES WITHIN BY ALIVE & MORE

From January 18 to 21, 2024, Karl Jouanni Folabit, artist and founder of the London-based label Alive+More, unveils his exhibition near the Jardin des Tuileries, at 24b, rue Saint-Roch (1st arrondissement).

For this event, Folabit brings together a young generation of contemporary artists, including photographers, musicians, sculptors, and 3D artists. Spread across six rooms on the ground floor and basement, the exhibition provides a glimpse into the ephemeral worlds created exclusively for this program.

Featured artists include Jahlil Nzinga, Awol Erizku, Nikolay Koshelev, Bora Akinciturk, Chito, photographers Imran Ciesay, Boris Halas, Glen Han, Daniel Derro Regan, DJs Jheri Mayne and D33J, and rapper-producer Malik Maul.

To complement the visit, a printed magazine is available, featuring an introduction to the works, artist interviews, and texts. Explore this unique intersection of fashion and artistry, where Paris becomes a canvas for creativity to flourish.
