<p class="has-drop-cap">Paris Opera pays tribute to <strong>Régine Crespin</strong> on the centenary of her birth with a gala at Palais Garnier on February 23. One of the great French sopranos of the 20th century, Crespin joined the Paris Opera company in 1951 and became particularly associated with the French and Wagnerian repertoire.</p><p>Under the direction of <strong>Nathalie Stutzmann</strong>, the Orchestre de l’Opéra national de Paris will accompany a cast that reflects the breadth of Crespin’s repertoire. Sondra Radvanovsky, Ludovic Tézier, Marina Rebeka, Ekaterina Gubanova, Lea Desandre, and Stanislas de Barbeyrac are among the voices taking part, with staging entrusted to Yves Lenoir.</p><h4><strong>From Wagner to Puccini</strong></h4><p>Beginning with Wagner, the program will introduce the Prelude from <em>Lohengrin</em> before turning to Sieglinde and Siegmund’s scene from <em>Die Walküre</em>. From there, the evening shifts to Verdi, as Marina Rebeka takes on Desdemona in Act IV of <em>Otello</em>, while Lea Desandre revisits Berlioz through excerpts from <em>Les Nuits d’été</em>. For the finale, Puccini takes over, with Sondra Radvanovsky as Tosca opposite Ludovic Tézier’s Scarpia in the closing scene of Act II of <em>Tosca</em>.</p><p>Once the performance concludes, the gala moves into its social program inside Palais Garnier.
