THE APARTMENT
Renoma Apartment is THE new unmissable cultural spot of Paris’s 16th district. Located above the emblematic boutique of the fashion brand Renoma, this majestic 220 m2 Haussmanian apartment aims to welcome art in all its shapes in an intimate atmosphere. The Renoma Apartment is a testament to the deeply intertwined relationship between fashion and art expressed in each of Maurice Renoma‘s creations – he who left his mark on the fashion world in the 1960s.
It hosts numerous exhibitions and works of art in its elegant setting. The apartment is the front stage of a new generation of emerging artists. Maurice Renoma constantly reaffirms his support for contemporary creation and for artists with a singular identity who dare to break the codes.
SYMPHONIC SCENE EXHIBITION
After the exquisite exhibition “Mythologies du Poisson Rouge“, Renoma is now presenting “Scène symphonique” by William Bakaimo and Famakan Magassa with Beninese artist Dominique Zinkpè as special guest, taking place from May 19 to June 30, 2021. This exhibition features the works of three creators, in harmony one with the other: Photographs by Maurice Renoma, a selection of paintings by William Bakaimo and Famakan Magassa as well as a series of collaborative works by the three of them, created specifically for this event.
It is an ode to metamorphosis, with creations that are both sublime and frightening, a kind of beauty in the style of Baudelaire. The paintings depict curious creatures representing Humankind faced by its demons, its destructive nature and the impact of the contemporary society.
MAURICE RENOMA
Maurice Cressy, known as Maurice Renoma, was born on October 23, 1940. This French stylist, photographer and designer became widely known for his bold and innovative vision of fashion as a form of art. In 1963, he opened his White House Renoma store 129 bis rue de la Pompe, in the 16th arrondissement of Paris. Before the 60s, fashion had strict codes that prevailed, and this is why his creative vision was immediately considered as a breath of fresh air. The store was a quick success, dressing young people from bourgeois neighbourhoods to well-known personalities such as Bob Dylan or John Lennon.
The Renoma style then became famous, with its fitted jacket with large lapels, deep slits, straight shoulders associated with straight-cut low waist pants. This is how Renoma was created, and still today, it represents a great step in the history of fashion and art.
