With the countdown to the 77th edition of the Cannes Film Festival underway, excitement mounts for the unveiling of a lineup brimming with world premieres, galas, and star-studded evenings.
Festival Director Thierry Frémaux and President Iris Knobloch unveiled this year’s films across various sections during a press conference. Already confirmed for the festival are highly anticipated films such as Francis Ford Coppola’s “Megalopolis,” George Miller’s “Furiosa,” and Kevin Costner’s “Horizon: An American Saga.” Quentin Dupieux’s star-studded comedy “The Second Act” will open the festival, featuring Léa Seydoux, Vincent Lindon, Louis Garrel, and Raphaël Quenard. With Greta Gerwig serving as president of the Competition jury, Cannes 2024 promises to be an unforgettable cinematic extravaganza. Additionally, notable figures like George Lucas will receive honorary accolades, and Camille Cottin will serve as master of the opening and closing ceremonies.
In the highly coveted Official Competition category, cinephiles can expect a diverse lineup of entries vying for the prestigious Palme d’Or. Notable contenders include “Megalopolis” by Francis Ford Coppola, “The Shrouds” by David Cronenberg, and “Parthenope” by Paolo Sorrentino, among others. Additionally, emerging talents showcase their creativity in the Un Certain Regard category, with standout selections like “Vingt Dieux!” by Louise Courvoisier and “On Becoming a Guinea Fowl” by Rungano Nyoni.
Cannes Première offers a platform for premieres of highly anticipated films, including “Furiosa: Une Saga Mad Max” by George Miller and “Horizon, an American Saga” by Kevin Costner. Meanwhile, Séances de Minuit presents late-night screenings of daring and boundary-pushing works, such as “I, The Executioner” by Seung Wan Ryoo and “The Surfer” by Lorcan Finnegan.
