ART PARIS CELEBRATES MODERN AND CONTEMPORARY ART IN THE FRENCH CAPITAL FROM SEPTEMBER 9 TO 12, 2021.

A TEMPORARY GRAND PALAIS AT CHAMP DE MARS—

This year, Art Paris will introduce the Grand Palais Éphémère at the Champ-de-Mars; a spectacular 21st-century temporary structure designed by architect Jean-Michel Wilmotte, at the foot of the École Militaire and aligned with the Eiffel Tower, which will house the Parisian events usually held at the Grand Palais until its reopening for the 2024 Olympic Games. You will find 140 modern and contemporary art galleries from about twenty countries, mostly from Europe, but also from more distant areas such as Korea, Colombia, the Ivory Coast, Guatemala or Uruguay.

Both regional and cosmopolitan, the 2021 edition – which will count 39% new participants – is distinguished by the arrival or return of high-profile galleries such as Kammel Mennour, frank elbaz, Ropac, Art: Concept, Continua, Perrotin who join regulars such as Nathalie Obadia, Lahumière, Templon… These prestigious galleries will be alongside “author galleries” such as Martine Aboucaya, Jean Fournier or Suzanne Tarasieve, and emerging names such as Derouillon, Galerie Pact, Stems or Marguo. In addition, Art Paris supports the promotion of monographic exhibitions, young galleries and emerging artists in the “Promesses” space, which gathers about ten exhibitors.

ATTRAPE-LUNE : THE OPENING NIGHT CEREMONY

For the opening of the fair, September 8, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m, Sarah Trouche, French artist and performer represented by the Marguerite Milin Gallery, will unveil her unique “Attrape-Lune” performance, imagined during the first French lockdown in April 2020. On April 4, 2020, during the full moon, Sarah Trouche invited her social media community to collaborate and share something other than news about Covid-19. Within minutes, she received over 950 photographs of the moon from a lockdown perspective. This exchange of light and hope is the starting point of the performance conceived for Art Paris 2021 with the troupe Winterstory In The Wild Jungle.

Nine dancers dressed in bright lights, equipped with circular mirrors and projectors will animate the fair. This ballet of lights will reflect both the architecture of the Grand Palais Éphémère, the public and the vibrant artworks. According to the artist, these movements of the body allow “a splash of light on our hopes, a form of resistance through the arts“, and reminds us that our humanity is the most important.
