Frieze LA 2026 Brings Its Most Compelling Edition Yet to Santa Monica Airport

Every February, for one week, Los Angeles becomes the most exciting address on the global art calendar, and Frieze LA is the reason. The seventh edition runs from February 26 to March 1 at Santa Monica Airport, and if you have not already cleared your schedule, now is the moment.
A hundred galleries from 24 countries will fill the hangars, bringing with them some of the most significant contemporary art being made right now. But Frieze LA has never been just a fair. It is a week-long cultural takeover of the entire city, with exhibitions, openings, parties and institutional programming radiating outward from Santa Monica into every neighborhood that matters. Here is everything you need to know before you go.
At Santa Monica Airport: What to See First
The fair floor rewards those who arrive with a plan. The blue-chip anchor galleries are all present, Gagosian, Hauser & Wirth, Thaddaeus Ropac, David Zwirner and Gladstone among them, but the most electric moments will happen at the stands that reward slower looking.
Pace Gallery (stand C09) presents works by David Lynch and James Turrell, a pairing that feels almost too perfectly calibrated for Los Angeles. Gemini G.E.L (stand B25) brings paintings by Ed Ruscha, and Gagosian (stand C12) presents works by Chris Burden and Frank Gehry. Sprüth Magers (stand C06) offers a focused look at John Baldessari, whose conceptual wit feels as urgent as ever.
This year, textiles emerge as the defining medium of the fair. French artist Élise Péroi presents a monumental installation at Carvahlo Gallery (stand C03), exploring landscape, language and impermanence. Jim Hodges shows his velvet compositions at Anthony Meier (stand C05), and Jamaican artist Ebony G. Patterson unveils her extraordinary tapestries at Moniquemeloche (stand A26).
The Focus section, sponsored by Stone Island and curated by Essence Harden, spotlights fifteen emerging US-based galleries. Do not skip it. Patron presents Jamal Cyrus, whose research-driven practice transforms denim, vinyl and instruments into sculptural assemblages interrogating Black political history and diaspora heritage.
The Exhibitions Worth Building Your Week Around
"I Bring Home With Me" — Amoako Boafo at Roberts Projects The Ghanaian artist Amoako Boafo, whose works have entered the collections of the Guggenheim, LACMA and the Albertina, presents new paintings set inside an architectural recreation of his Accra studio, reproduced to scale inside the gallery. It is one of the most anticipated openings of the season. On view until March 21, 442 South La Brea Avenue.
"Paging Dr. Feelgood" — Perrotin at West Hollywood For the first time, Perrotin takes over a West Hollywood space, occupying the building that housed the original Spago restaurant. Twenty-two West Coast artists present work exploring the psychic and physical avenues that define Los Angeles. Open February 23 to March 1.
"Precious Moment" — Sayre Gomez at David Kordansky Sayre Gomez's new exhibition confronts the violent contrasts of American urban life, wealth and precarity sharing the same frame. Meet the artist on February 25 at 5pm. On view until March 1, 5130 W. Edgewood Place.
"Eames House; Impression of Light" — Eames House Foundation Artist James Clar takes over the newly opened Eames House Studio in Pacific Palisades, exploring how Charles and Ray Eames conceived their home as a living prism shaped by light, reflection and texture. 203 Chautauqua Boulevard.
The Party That Starts It All
No Frieze week is complete without the nights. The Sunset at Edition in West Hollywood fires the starting gun on February 23, with an invitation-only opening organized by Autre Magazine, gallerist Jeffrey Deitch and Vince.
The unmissable residency this year belongs to Club Silencio, the legendary Paris nightclub born from David Lynch's imagination in Mulholland Drive. Silencio takes over the underground club at Sunset at Edition for three nights, February 24, 25 and 26, with partners including LACMA Avant-Garde and the Tom of Finland Foundation. Two additional nights with DJ Harvey and DJ VTSS round out the week.
And If You Want to Go Beyond the Fair
Felix LA, now in its eighth edition, runs February 25 to March 1 at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, with 57 galleries presenting work in the bungalows and poolside rooms. More intimate, more unpredictable, and worth an afternoon.
Monuments, the critically acclaimed exhibition at MOCA and The Brick in Melrose Hill, continues until May 3, 2026, presenting decommissioned Confederate statues in dialogue with contemporary works including those of Kara Walker. If you have not been yet, Frieze week is your reason to go.
