Traditional English Basketmaking Enters The Luxury Wardrobe Through A Series Of Handcrafted Pieces Presented In Milan

JW Anderson x Eddie Glew debut the Basket Bag at Salone del Mobile 2026, handwoven from British willow by Eddie Glew, a Yeoman Basketmaker and sculptor based in Staffordshire, England. The collection includes the Blanket Basket, the Log Basket, and the Laundry Basket, all finished with chocolate vegetable-tanned leather and gunmetal-finish hardware, drawing from medieval storage chests found in stately homes. No two baskets are identical. At the JW Anderson flagship on Via Sant'Andrea, Glew staged a live demonstration carving wooden flowers by hand, a skill rooted in a Romany tradition his late father first taught him.

Jonathan Anderson left Loewe last year. This Milan Design Week, for the first time, it fell to his own label to fill that space. What he brought was a basket. Not a bag that looks like a basket. An actual basket. Handwoven from British willow by Eddie Glew, a Yeoman Basketmaker and sculptor based in Staffordshire, England, who learned the craft from his late father before earning a full scholarship to study under expert basketmaker Sally Goymer through the Queen Elizabeth Scholarship Trust. This Salone del Mobile, JW Anderson debuted the JW Anderson x Eddie Glew Basket Bag alongside the Blanket Basket, the Log Basket, and the Laundry Basket from the Fall/Winter 2026 collection.

JW Anderson x Eddie Glew Weaves Craft Into the Wardrobe

The JW Anderson x Eddie Glew bags begin with willow. British willow, woven entirely by hand, drawing from medieval storage chests found in stately homes. Chocolate vegetable-tanned leather straps and handles. Developed with a London-based leather craftsperson, complete the transition from craft object to luxury bag. Applied leather flower motifs on the exterior, flower-shaped washers on the interior, and gunmetal-finish hardware throughout. No two baskets are identical. The willow, the weave, the form. Every variation is the work of human hands.

At the JW Anderson flagship on Via Sant'Andrea, Glew staged a live demonstration using only a shave horse, a draw knife, and his hands, carving wooden flowers from a single piece of wood. A skill rooted in a Romany tradition his late father first taught him: shaping blooms from hedgerow wood with a pocketknife. Guests received one of the handcrafted flowers, presented with protective packaging and an informational postcard.
