Max Mara SS27 Recasts 1930s Adventure In Far Horizon

Max Mara has always understood the authority of a woman who looks ready for whatever the day demands. For Max Mara SS27, Far Horizon, Ian Griffiths looked to the fearless, cosmopolitan women of the 1930s, including explorers Freya Stark and Osa Johnson, aviators Amelia Earhart and Beryl Markham, and racing driver Eva Dickson. Their nonconformist glamour translates into a modern wardrobe with a sharper sense of adventure. The show took place at Via Piranesi 14 in Milan, with Leighton Meester, Kelly Rutherford, Kate Mara, and Louise Bourgoin among the front-row guests.

Adventure Dressing, Rewritten

Safari jackets in linen and lustrous gabardine meet high-waisted trousers, Bermuda shorts, fluid skirts, and crisp shirts, all with a confident ease that keeps the expedition references chic rather than literal. Black organza gives cargo trousers an almost decadent edge, while halter necklines, cutout backs, and slinky knits bring a more sensual register to the collection.

Sand, chalk, beige, gray, black, and optical white keep the mood refined, with monochrome looks tapping into the maison’s signature understatement. Safari references meet 1930s glamour without nostalgia, giving the collection its confidence and désinvolture. Accessories bring a little more weight, with capacious suede bags shifting between crossbody, clutch, and rucksack, while sturdy block-heeled boots anchor the lighter looks.
