ART & Design:
October begins with a burst of light. From October 4-13, Berlin transforms into an illuminated wonderland with the 20th Berlin Festival of Light. Marvel at light and video projections on famous landmarks while exploring the city’s rich cultural heritage.
October also marks the highly anticipated debut of Art Basel Paris (October 18-22). Taking over the historical Foire Internationale d’Art Contemporain (FIAC). Art Basel’s entrance into Paris has reshaped the contemporary art scene. Leading galleries from around the world will gather at the Grand Palais, showcasing cutting-edge works of modern art. Expect a combination of traditional fine art, daring installations, and forward-thinking digital art.
Before that, Frieze Art Week (October 9-15) sets the stage at the Regent’s Park, London. It will feature modern and contemporary art across galleries and public spaces.
On the other hand, in Lyon, France. You can visit the Biennale de Lyon. From September 21, 2024, to January 5, 2025, showcasing contemporary art from international artists. After two years of preparation, the 17th Lyon Biennale of Contemporary Art opens its doors to the public. Since its first edition in 1991, this major event has supported creative arts and encouraged visitor interaction with artworks.
Cinema, TV & Awards:
in Rome, the 19th Rome Film Festival (October 16-27) brings cinematic magic to the Eternal City. With Lifetime Achievement Awards for Johnny Depp and Viggo Mortensen. this year, the Festival features screenings, premieres, and special events.
In Los Angeles, the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures is set to host its 4th annual gala on October 19. It is honoring Paul Mescal, Rita Moreno, and Quentin Tarantino. The highly anticipated event aims to raise funds to support the museum’s exhibitions, education initiatives, and public programming. Since its opening in 2021, the L.A. museum has been a cultural hub, and this year’s gala will continue celebrating the art of filmmaking in grand style.
In Cannes, as held every October, MIPCOM Cannes 2024 (October 21-24). This premier global event is where industry leaders gather to showcase new series, forge international production partnerships, and shape future content trends. This highly anticipated week is also a hub for discussions on sustainability, as the entertainment industry takes strides toward a more responsible future.
The Woman in Film (WIF) Honors Award takes place on October 24, 2024, at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles. This annual event celebrates women’s achievements in film and television, recognizing actors, producers, and creators who have championed gender equality and inclusion in the industry.
Meanwhile, the El Gouna Film Festival returns for its 7th edition from October 26-30 in El Gouna, Egypt. The festival will showcase regional and international films. It fosters cultural dialogue through cinema and continues to grow as a key event in the Arab film world.
Fashion Weeks & Awards:
Fashion Weeks continues to showcase RTW SS 2025 collections. Shanghai Fashion Week (October 9-18) and Riyadh Fashion Week (October 17-21). Victoria’s Secret’s big comeback is also making waves, as their iconic runway show returns to New York on October 15, 2024, after a five-year hiatus. Fashion Trust Arabia, 2024 edition on October 25th, is set to be held in Marrakech to align with the Qatar-Morocco Year of Culture. This year’s 2024 CFDA Fashion Awards presented by Amazon Fashion will take place at the American Museum of Natural History on October 28th, 2024.
Music Festivals:
Montreux Jazz Festival Residency. October 16 to 19, 2024. Up-and-coming talents and big names from the jazz and soul scenes will gather at the Petit Palais of the Fairmont Le Montreux Palace. On the program: concerts, showcases, workshops, jam sessions, and DJ sets. All activities are free.
