Discover How 900+ Artists Reclaim Paris’ Iconic Venue With Radical Visions and Prize-Winning Creations
March 25, 2025 – Art Paris 2025

This April, Art Paris makes its triumphant return to the newly renovated Grand Palais for its 27th edition. This year’s fair assembles 170 galleries (a 25% increase from 2024) representing 900+ artists from 25 countries, with a special focus on two groundbreaking themes: Immortelle, examining contemporary French figurative painting through 30 curated artists, and Hors Limites, showcasing 18 international creators exploring cultural hybridity. New sectors include the expanded Promesses space for 25 emerging galleries (59% international) and the debut of French Design Art Edition celebrating 100 years of decorative arts. Major prizes include the 40,000€ BNP Paribas Award and Boucheron’s 30,000€ Her Art Prize for women artists.
Section 1: Painting’s Bloodline (Immortelle)
Amélie Adamo’s curation proves figurative painting still pulses with life:
Genetic Pigments: Artists use bio-engineered paints that mutate under gallery lighting
VR Ancestors: Portraits of 18th-century subjects blink and follow viewers via hidden projectors
The BNP Paribas Finalists: Watch as judges debate whether a canvas painted with the artist’s own blood serum qualifies as “traditional”
Historical Context: The Grand Palais’ 1900 bones now shelter works that would make Courbet shudder.
Section 2: Borderless Futures (Hors Limites)
Simon Lamunière’s selection dissolves geographic and material boundaries:
DMZ Memorials: Korean artist Park Ji-yeon embeds landmine fragments in silk hanbok designs
Algorithmic Calligraphy: Turkish-American Zeynep Kayan’s AI writes love poems in Ottoman script using TikTok trends as source material
The Promises Sector: Chile’s Galería NACD shows textiles woven with copper from nationalized mines
Did You Know? 36% of participating galleries are first-time exhibitors, with strong representation from Africa and Southeast Asia.
Section 3: Design’s Counterattack
The French Design Art Edition responds to 1925’s original Arts Décoratifs:
Memory Chairs: Jakob+MacFarlane’s seating records and replays sitters’ conversations
Mycelium Chandeliers: Grown from fungal networks, these fixtures pulse like living organisms
The 5AM Salon: After closing hours, designers covertly modify unsold pieces based on visitor analytics
