Bvlgari Kaleidos Shanghai Brings More Than 300 High Jewelry Creations to the Power Station of Art

Bvlgari Kaleidos Shanghai, the Roman jeweler’s exhibition dedicated to color, brings more than a century of jewelry design to the Power Station of Art, where High Jewelry and historic creations from the Bvlgari Heritage Collection are presented alongside Chinese contemporary art. Following its 2025 debut in Tokyo, Kaleidos: Colors, Cultures and Crafts has been reinterpreted for Shanghai through Chinese philosophy and the work of artists Liang Manqi and Zhang Ding, creating a conversation between Bvlgari’s Roman identity and China’s own cultural language of color.

Bvlgari’s Three Chapters of Color

Color has shaped Bvlgari’s jewelry since the Roman Maison began experimenting with bold combinations of precious and colored gemstones. Bvlgari is known for setting contrasting colors together and allowing each gemstone to change the way you see the next.

Kaleidos puts this relationship with color at the heart of the exhibition. Its name combines the Greek words kalos, meaning beauty, and eidos, meaning form. From there, the exhibition unfolds across three chapters: The Science of Colors, Color Symbolism, and The Power of Light. Together, they examine how you perceive color, the meanings cultures attach to it, and the way light transforms it.

Chinese Artists Bring a New Perspective to Kaleidos

Yet jewelry tells only part of the story in Shanghai. Liang Manqi and Zhang Ding bring contemporary Chinese art into Kaleidos, approaching color through their own artistic practices. Their presence also distinguishes Shanghai from the exhibition’s first edition. Kaleidos debuted at the National Art Center, Tokyo, in 2025, where Bvlgari presented approximately 350 works alongside contemporary art by Lara Favaretto, Mariko Mori and Akiko Nakayama.

Shanghai changes that cultural perspective. Chinese philosophy is demonstrated in the exhibition through the Five Elements, while Liang Manqi and Zhang Ding bring the conversation into contemporary Chinese art. Bvlgari’s Roman jewelry heritage remains at its center, but the context surrounding it belongs to Shanghai.

Kaleidos at Bvlgari Hotel Shanghai

Meanwhile, the exhibition extends to Bvlgari Hotel Shanghai. At the hotel entrance, Liang Manqi presents Portal, a site-specific installation created for the space. Inside the lobby, photographer Matthieu Lavanchy continues the Kaleidos narrative through photography. You will also find the exhibition catalogue in the hotel’s rooms and suites.

Then comes another expression of color, this time through chocolate. At Bvlgari Dolci, Master Chocolatier Gianluca Fusto has created a limited-edition Il Cioccolato collection for Kaleidos.
