L’ABBAYE DES VAUX DE CERNAY, A 12TH-CENTURY CISTERCIAN ABBEY, IS A UNIQUE, FASCINATING, AND MYSTERIOUS PLACE.

IT OFFERS AN IDYLLIC SETTING FOR A CULTURAL AND ROMANTIC GETAWAY WHERE YOU CAN EXPLORE THE ABBEY’S ARCHITECTURAL MARVELS, INCLUDING THE ABBEY CHURCH, THE MONKS’ HALL, THE DOVECOTE, AND THE SAINT-THIBAULT FOUNTAIN.

THESE REMNANTS BEAR WITNESS TO THE ABBEY’S FORMER GRANDEUR BEFORE IT WAS DISBANDED DURING THE FRENCH REVOLUTION IN 1791.

Nestled in the picturesque Vallée de Chevreuse, just 45 minutes south of Paris in the Yvelines region, L’Abbaye des Vaux de Cernay has reopened its doors this autumn under the management of Paris Society, becoming the ultimate destination in the area.

Formerly a 12th-century Cistercian abbey and once owned by the Rothschild family in the early 20th century, L’Abbaye des Vaux de Cernay has been operating as a hotel since 1989. Now, it is about to embark on a new chapter as it opens its doors under the Paris Society banner at the end of October 2023. Led by Laurent de Gourcuff, the Paris Society group is renowned for its trendy establishments with impeccable design, including Le Refuge de Solaise in Val d’Isère and acclaimed Parisian restaurants like Riviera, Bonnie with a view of the Seine, Girafe, and Perruche. Now, they bring their expertise to this exceptional location for a weekend getaway near Paris.

Boasting 147 meticulously designed rooms and suites envisioned by Cordélia de Castellane, the ambiance of L’Abbaye des Vaux de Cernay gently evokes the charm of a countryside retreat. The original woodwork and intricate design details have been preserved, with walls adorned in original fabrics and custom or antique furniture. Each key, whether in the abbey or the Haras, is unique. The hotel offers three categories of rooms, two types of suites, and five signature suites: Suite de la Baronne, La Pagode, La Favorite, Suite du Baron, and Suite de l’Abbé. Scattered throughout the property, three pavilions provide a more intimate escape for families and groups of friends, including La Pagode, positioned directly on the lake and inspired by Japanese design.

Perfect for a last-minute nature-filled weekend, the abbey features a Kids Club for children aged 3 and above in collaboration with the renowned brand Tartine et Chocolat. An array of activities, presented by the Bureau des sports, ensures a comprehensive range of options, including archery, treasure hunts, ULM flights, hot air ballooning, boot camps, rowing, pony rides, yoga, and more.

The hotel is also home to six bars and restaurants: Les Chasses, located in the former hunting lodge of the Rothschild family and known as the most elegant French cuisine restaurant in the domain, Le Réfectoire des Moines, L’Auberge, a casual dining spot shaded by a majestic weeping willow in the summer, and La Trattoria, because no hotel project is complete without an Italian dining experience. Additionally, a farm and equestrian center are being established, and the spa proudly carries the prestigious American brand Tata Harper, known for its 100% organic, plant-based, and cruelty-free products. Set amidst the serene Vallée de Chevreuse near Rambouillet, the abbey is surrounded by an 80-hectare park and a fishing pond, providing the perfect backdrop for a weekend of relaxation.

L’Abbaye des Vaux de Cernay is undoubtedly a luxurious hotel with a plethora of offerings, including five unique restaurants. With its reopening scheduled for autumn 2023, reservations are now open, inviting guests to experience the magic of this historic site in the Yvelines.
