Just before the show, Elie Saab stood backstage at the Théâtre de Chaillot and said something no one expected to hear from the king of red-carpet armor. “I wanted couture to feel relaxed. I wanted it to be… cool.”

Cool, it turned out, was an understatement. What unfolded under the monumental glass of the 1937 landmark—Tour Eiffel shimmering through the panes, twenty musicians from the Scoring Orchestra playing psychedelic strings and folk-rock live—was nothing less than a liberation. Titled Golden Summer Nights of ’71, Saab’s Spring 2026 Haute Couture collection abandoned the thousand-and-one-night formality of his past and chased something far more seductive: the hedonistic, sun-soaked ease of the jet-set era, from the whitewashed shores of Milos to the labyrinthine medinas of Marrakech.

And the world showed up to witness it. Jennifer Lopez arrived last minute, sending the room into pandemonium as she claimed her front-row perch in an embellished floral cape, shimmying ever so slightly as the violins swelled. Beside her, Heart Evangelista, Amy Jackson, Leonie Hanne, Poppy Delevingne, and Olivia Palermo completed a constellation of women who embody the very ease Saab was chasing. Not a velvet rope in sight. Just couture, finally breathing.

Saab Softens His Signature

Forty-two looks marched down the runway, each one quieter than the last. Saab stripped away the chandelier-level embroidery that built his Maison and let the clothes speak in lowercase. Cropped gilets opened over bare skin, some trimmed in fur, others left unbuttoned and unconcerned. Tank tops, the season’s unexpected hero, arrived in beaded black and woven beige, slipping beneath skirts of stylized feathers and pleated silk chiffon anchored by clusters of crystals, a new technique for the house. Column skirts cut narrow, demanding a careful walk. Couture still asks something of the woman who wears it. Saab simply stopped pretending otherwise.

Leather claimed its couture debut. Saab worked thin strips as if they were chiffon, coaxing them into macramé-like beadwork across a chocolate gilet that swayed with every step. Embroidery melted into invisible tulle. Crystals dissolved rather than decorated. Fine silver fringe cascaded in tiers, catching light like zebra stripes or rivulets of mercury. One gown, embroidered entirely in spaghetti-thin strands of silver, gold, and diamanté, appeared weightless. Saab admitted otherwise: it required a serious set of shoulders.

The palette tracked the sun. Blush, bronze, molten gold, chocolate brown—colors kissed by Mediterranean light and desert heat, punctuated by lilac and seafoam that suggested twilight settling over the Aegean. Nothing shouted. Everything shone.

Then came the bride. She walked in beige-rose slip, lace and stones scattered across her skin like morning stars. A thorn-like crown, hammered gold and intricately wrought, sat low on her brow. Her veil trailed near-weightless behind her. Her hair hung loose.
