Louvre to Host Its First-Ever Fashion Exhibition in January 2025

In January 2025, the Musée du Louvre is set to unveil its very first fashion exhibition, running from January 24 to July 21. This is a groundbreaking moment for the world’s largest museum, as it delves into the dazzling world of haute couture, mixing it up with its legendary historical collections.

For the first time ever, the Louvre will showcase around 65 fabulous outfits and 30 accessories from top designers like Chanel by Karl Lagerfeld, Yohji Yamamoto, and Dolce & Gabbana. These iconic pieces will be displayed among the Louvre’s incredible collection, including everything from ancient armor to intricate ceramics, giving visitors a fresh perspective on how fashion interacts with history.

Olivier Gabet, the Museum’s Director of Decorative Arts, is thrilled about the show. “This is a first for us,” he says. “We’re excited to explore how our historical collections can inspire fashion and how today’s designers are influenced by the past.” The exhibition will pair haute couture with artifacts from various eras, creating a stylish dialogue between past and present.

The exhibition will also celebrate Marie-Louise Carven, a Parisian fashion legend who loved art and donated 18th-century French pieces to the Louvre. Her contributions link fashion and art in a meaningful way.

While the Louvre doesn’t have its own fashion collection, it will display outfits from designers across France, Italy, the UK, and the US. This blend of high fashion and historical grandeur is sure to make for a visually spectacular show.
