Master Blender Dr. Emma Walker Crafts a Ten-whisky Narrative to Mirror Olivier Rousteing’s Journey
October 12, 2025- Johnnie Walker Vault X Olivier Rousteing ‘The Couture Blend’ Release

Following the success of their first release, Couture Expression, legendary Scotch maison Johnnie Walker Vault and Balmain’s visionary Creative Director Olivier Rousteing unveil The Couture Blend, bridging decades of Scotch tradition with avant-garde couture.
Beneath Edinburgh’s historic Princes Street, the Vault transforms into a laboratory of experimentation. Here, Master Blender Dr. Emma Walker curates ten rare whiskies from both the maison’s archives and its most experimental distillations. Ghost whiskies from shuttered distilleries like Port Dundas and Caledonian meet modern expressions from Roseisle, Teaninich, and Benrinnes, while tropical fruit from ex-wine cask malts, tonka and spiced chocolate, and smoky whispers from ghost casks weave a layered story that reflects Rousteing’s expressive couture vision.
Produced in only 1,500 individually numbered decanters, the release strategically coincides with Rousteing’s 40th birthday. Consequently, it embodies a powerful narrative of personal and creative evolution. This moment firmly anchors luxury spirits within the world of haute couture.

Walker Constructs a Multi-Generational Blend
For this second act, Master Blender Dr. Emma Walker envisioned a Scotch that would mirror Olivier Rousteing’s own creative arc, a narrative of reinvention told through liquid. Her canvas: a selection of just ten whiskies spanning more than four decades. She masterfully wove together rare ghost casks from silent distilleries like Port Dundas and Caledonian, which provide a profound, historic backbone, with vibrant, experimental modern malts. The resulting profile is a symphony of contrasts: Roseisle matured in ex-wine casks introduces a burst of fruity, tropical layers; Teaninich contributes deep, resonant notes of dark tonka bean and spiced chocolate; and Benrinnes lends a structured malt complexity. The blend unfolds in waves, from a vibrant, contemporary freshness to a haunting, smoky finish, perfectly echoing the creative tension between heritage and avant-garde experimentation that defines both collaborators.
The Couture Blend is, ultimately, a story of time, connecting the maison’s storied archives to its creative future. Rousteing describes the alchemy between fashion and spirits as a deeply personal dialogue. “Whatever collaboration I do, I do with my heart, with authenticity and with emotion,” he shares. “Understanding the heritage of Johnnie Walker was a unique experience.” This philosophy is embodied by the Johnnie Walker Vault itself, which extends the collaboration beyond the bottle, offering collectors unparalleled access through rare expressions and bespoke blending sessions. It ensures that the partnership is deeply, memorably tasted.

Rousteing Reimagines the Whisky Decanter
Rousteing channels his architectural vision into the decanter’s sculptural form. He preserves Johnnie Walker‘s iconic square silhouette while dramatically reshaping its proportions. The designer introduces sharp, structured lines and pronounced shoulders. Meanwhile, lavish gold accents frame the oversized stopper and collar, creating a stunning visual tension against the pure crystal.
For the ultimate personal touch, select retailers provide an engraved gold collar for individualization. Rousteing reveals this design embodies a beautiful paradox, mirroring the blend’s own dialogue between heritage and rebellion. The elements reflect his couture philosophy, transforming traditional whisky packaging into a contemporary art object.
