FOR EMPORIO ARMANI’S 40TH ANNIVERSARY, ARMANI/SILOS PRESENTS “THE WAY WE ARE”, AN EXHIBITION PERSONALLY CURATED BY GIORGIO ARMANI THAT TRANSFORMS THE UNIFYING SPIRIT OF EMPORIO ARMANI INTO A UNIQUE EXPERIENCE, A LOOK BACK AT FOUR DECADES OF AN INNOVATIVE AND CROSS

The “The Way We Are” exhibition was conceived as a 360-degree takeover of the spaces making it a true manifesto to be experienced and lived.

The manifesto reads: “Within an EMPORIO, (an emporium), there are no boundaries of time or space. An EMPORIO acts as a receptacle, an encyclopedia, an algorithm. An EMPORIO contains everything, for everyone, at all times. An EMPORIO has no defined patterns. EMPORIO ARMANI is all this, under the banner of the eagle. He is here, now, today, in every possible way. It is me, you, us – we are all the same because we are different. Free. It’s pragmatism and imagination, it’s EA”.

Emporio Armani was founded in 1981 with a clear goal – to make fashion accessible to all, with the Armani stamp – but without a manifesto. It was not necessary. This exhibition is an ex-post manifesto; a line of action, stemming from the spirit of what it has been until now. And the central element is precisely the spirit: the exhibition makes it tangible, alive; opening it up to all the senses, in all ways.

A mix of signature garments and accessories with unique images and iconography developed over the years, as well as the history of Milan seen through the pages of Emporio Armani Magazine. The spaces of Armani/Silos have been occupied by giant photographs, as oversized has always been key to the brand’s communication; the rooms are covered with moodboards, videos and clothing. You are both challenged by the manifesto and invited to participate in it: browsing and exploring it, then seeing it materialize before their eyes through the objects, films, photos and emotions displayed in each room.

Being a program, the manifesto is timeless: it surpasses, transcends the decades. It happens now and comes to life through the ever unique experience of those who visit the exhibition.

“Emporio Armani was born in 1981, far ahead of its time. I imagined it as a line with which to experiment, to capture new trends and introduce fashion for all; a receptacle in which everyone can find something and make it their own, interpret it in a personal way. Today it represents the transversal and dynamic version of my conception of style, and has not lost its initial spirit of individuality and community, research and freedom. These are the values I wanted to highlight with this exhibition, because Emporio has always been a brand that is strongly rooted in the contemporary world, reflecting its energy and urban vitality, capturing its rhythm and offering an experience made of clothes, accessories and ideas,” confides Giorgio Armani.
