Jil Sander SS27 Gives Minimalism a Beautifully Imperfect Edge

Jil Sander SS27 made imperfection look chic. At the maison’s historic Piazza Castello headquarters in Milan, Simone Bellotti softened Jil Sander’s famously rigorous vocabulary with a less pristine, more expressive wardrobe. Wrinkled fabrics, swollen skirts, oversized collars, and sudden flashes of cobalt, red, and yellow created a quieter sensuality. That tension became the real seduction of the show. Bellotti kept the precision Jil Sander women already love, yet allowed something slightly undone to slip into it. Bellotti himself described his interest in inserting something “a bit wrong” into Jil Sander’s perfection, and that décalage gave SS27 its personality.

A Little Imperfection, A Lot More Allure

The strongest looks played with that contradiction. A sharp jacket could suddenly pinch at the waist. A perfectly proper shirt appeared with a collar exaggerated almost beyond reason. Even the most minimal pieces carried one detail that broke the discipline, giving the collection a sense of désinvolture without losing its sophistication.

And just when the palette risked becoming too serious, color played the spoiler. Black, navy, gray, and muted neutrals met sudden jolts of cobalt blue, red, orange, yellow, and hot pink. Used sparingly, those shades changed the entire attitude of a look. A flash of blue beneath gray or red against a darker jacket was enough to make Jil Sander’s minimalism look considerably less austere.
