Virgil Abloh Archive x Nike to Premiere “The Codes” Exhibition at Paris Fashion Week

Even years after his passing, Virgil Abloh’s influence still shapes how we dress, create, and think about culture. His legacy stretches beyond Off-White, Nike, and Louis Vuitton. It’s a language of collaboration, remix, and disruption that continues to ripple through fashion and design.

This fall, that language takes over Paris. On September 30 — Abloh’s birthday — the Virgil Abloh Archive, in partnership with Nike, will launch The Codes at the Grand Palais. Running through October 10, the show lands right in the middle of Paris Fashion Week, bringing Virgil’s universe back to the city that defined so much of his work.

Inside The Codes

The exhibition draws from Abloh’s vast 20,000-object archive, with hundreds of prototypes, garments, sneakers, sketches, photographs, and personal items on view. Some pieces are familiar, such as cult Off-White x Nike sneakers or design drafts from Louis Vuitton. Others, however, offer a more intimate perspective: WhatsApp screenshots from brainstorming sessions, fragments from his library, unfinished projects, and private collections rarely seen outside his circle.

Organized by Chloe Sultan and Mahfuz Sultan, The Codes expands on the 2022 Miami edition, which centered on architecture and process. In Paris, the focus shifts. The show explores how Abloh blurred the boundaries between fashion, music, advertising, and art. It also highlights how his collaborations with artists and athletes reshaped creative culture.

A Living Legacy

“Sharing his personal collection, unfinished projects, and magnum opuses with the public is how we celebrate Virgil’s legacy,” says Shannon Abloh, CEO of Virgil Abloh Securities and chair of the Virgil Abloh Foundation. Moreover, she explains, “through the Archive, Virgil will remain a source of inspiration and a beacon of creative knowledge.”

Alongside the exhibition, live performances, and screenings will invite the public into Virgil’s process. For Paris, the exhibition is a return. A love letter to the city where Abloh redefined what fashion could mean.
