Maison Montagut Marks 145 Years With the Opening of Its New Heritage Space and Museum in France

Founded in 1880, Maison Montagut is a family-run French luxury house renowned for its historic expertise in knitwear and its dedication to materials like Grade A cashmere, merino wool, and Fil Lumière, positioning it among the most refined knitwear ateliers in Europe.

This November, the Maison inaugurated Espace Montagut on its original historic site in the village of Saint-Sauveur-de-Montagut, Ardèche, transforming a restored industrial space into a modern heritage destination. Combining a 197 m² boutique with a 161 m² museum, the site celebrates the Maison’s story while boasting an experiential retail environment. Discover collections from Montagut and its sister brands Beau Nuage and Le Chatelard 1802, alongside services such as mercerie and repairs, an homage to the artisanal spirit of the brand.

A Hidden Gem of French savoir-Faire

The Museum presents Maison Montagut’s history in five clear phases. You will start with the 18th-century silk milling techniques that laid the foundation for the brand’s knitwear expertise. Next, explore its industrial development in Ardèche, followed by the creation of its signature knitwear collections. Finally, discover the brand’s expansion into international markets and its contemporary operations.

With over 180 guests at the inauguration, Maison Montagut demonstrates its role as a custodian of industrial heritage in Ardèche.
