Dreams of This Future: The Collection of Peggy Cooper Cafritz
Dreams of This Future brings together a selection of works from a historic gift to the Studio Museum in Harlem by Peggy Cooper Cafritz (1947–2018) to celebrate her legacy as an advocate for the arts. A patron, educator, and civil rights activist, Cafritz built two art collections during her lifetime. The first was largely destroyed in a 2009 fire; the second was amassed in the seven years prior to her death. Both collections spoke to her unyielding commitment to artists of African descent. Voracious in her interests, Cafritz collected across mediums—with paintings, photographs, sculptures, textiles, and works on paper represented in this exhibition—but with a firm commitment to championing artists from the earliest stages of their careers. Work by Titus Kaphar and Deana Lawson is included.

This exhibition at Galerie Eva Presenhuber showcases new works by British artist Liam Gillick, expanding on his original script for 'Mirrored Image: A Volvo Bar' with layered subplots and inversions. Drawing inspiration from Ben Jonson's 1609 play 'The Case Is Altered' and Inigo Jones's historical masques, the presentation includes pen-and-ink drawings, sculptures, and mirror works, inviting visitors to engage with themes of time, identity, and the complexities of post-industrial society. Gillick's practice thoughtfully reflects on the legacy of modernism and the aesthetics of economy and labor, offering a critical re-evaluation of contemporary production conditions.

Lucio Fontana: Spatialism. Pioneering the Contemporary
Hauser & Wirth Hong Kong presents a significant exhibition of works by Argentine-Italian artist Lucio Fontana, focusing on his seminal Buchi (Holes) and Tagli (Cuts) series. This presentation delves into the evolution of Spatialism, the revolutionary movement Fontana founded, showcasing his radical exploration of the canvas as a dynamic space beyond traditional boundaries. The exhibition, curated by Luca Massimo Barbero, highlights how Fontana’s punctured and slashed surfaces redefined the interplay between artwork and its environment, pioneering postwar contemporary art. This Hong Kong showing concludes a trilogy of exhibitions, offering a comprehensive look at his groundbreaking career from the 1920s to the late 1960s.

    Kerry James Marshall: The Histories

The Musée d’Art Moderne de Paris presents Kerry James Marshall: The Histories from September 18, 2026, to January 24, 2027, marking the first exhibition in France devoted to one of the most important contemporary American painters.

Bringing together 70 works from major museum and private collections across Europe and North America, the exhibition spans more than four decades of Marshall’s practice and includes eight new paintings created specifically for the project. Known for placing Black figures at the center of large-scale compositions, Marshall draws on art history, everyday life and collective memory while questioning who has historically been represented within Western painting.

Organized by the Royal Academy of Arts in London in collaboration with Kunsthaus Zürich, The Histories gives collectors and contemporary art followers a rare opportunity to see significant works by Marshall together in Paris, including pieces rarely shown outside their permanent or private collections.

The Artist’s Attire: From Rosa Bonheur to Sonia Delaunay

The Musée Bourdelle presents L’étoffe de l’artiste. De Rosa Bonheur à Sonia Delaunay from September 23, 2026, to January 24, 2027, examining how artists used clothing to construct their public image from the late 19th to the mid-20th century.

The exhibition pairs garments worn by artists including Gustav Klimt, Rosa Bonheur, Foujita, Sonia Delaunay and Camille Bernier with paintings, sculptures, photographs and works on paper. From studio smocks and workwear to carefully styled public appearances, clothing becomes part of the way artists defined their identity, challenged convention and presented themselves to the world.

The show also looks at artists who treated dress as an extension of their creative practice, including Sonia Delaunay, whose use of color and geometric pattern crossed between painting, textiles and fashion.

Presented at the Musée Bourdelle with support from the Musée des Arts Décoratifs and the Musée d’Orsay, the exhibition places fashion inside a broader history of artistic self-presentation rather than treating clothing simply as costume.

    Eva Gonzalès: A Free-Spirited Artist

The Petit Palais presents Eva Gonzalès: A Free-Spirited Artist from September 15, 2026, to January 24, 2027, with the first major retrospective devoted to the French painter Eva Gonzalès.

A contemporary of Berthe Morisot and Mary Cassatt, Gonzalès was the only formal pupil of Édouard Manet, yet her work has never previously been the subject of a major retrospective in France or internationally. The exhibition brings together almost 100 paintings, pastels and prints, tracing the development of an artist who established her own voice within the Parisian art world of the late 19th century.

Organized in collaboration with the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, where the exhibition will travel in February 2027, the retrospective also benefits from the support of the Musée d’Orsay.

James Bantone explores how images shape desire, identity, and the way bodies become visible, classified, and consumed. Using photography, sculpture, painting, and video, he disrupts images through transfer, fragmentation, corrosion, and overpainting across materials such as steel and aluminium. His recent work turns this process onto his own body, examining the tension between agency, exposure, objecthood, and control.

Presented at the Musée Bourdelle with support from the Musée des Arts Décoratifs and the Musée d’Orsay, the exhibition places fashion inside a broader history of artistic self-presentation rather than treating clothing simply as costume.

The exhibition brings together almost 100 paintings, pastels and prints, tracing the development of an artist who established her own voice within the Parisian art world of the late 19th century.
