Armani/Casa Honors Giorgio Armani's Legacy With Origins

Giorgio Armani passed away last September, and this Milan Design Week, his Maison lands at Corso Venezia 14 for the first time without him. What Armani/Casa chose to present was not a farewell. It was a continuation. Origins, the exhibition project conceived for this Milan Design Week, unfolds with eight of the designer's most iconic pieces. Reissued in new materials and finishes while maintaining the looks he gave them. Origins closes with three furnished living rooms drawn directly from the atmospheres of his private homes. A journey through the spaces and objects defining how Giorgio Armani understood the art of living.

Armani/Casa Reissues Eight Icons in New Form

The ground floor of Corso Venezia 14 unfolds with drama. Black draped walls frame illuminated vitrines where eight design icons sit alongside their newest versions. The originals visible in full. The updates revealed only as silhouettes through frosted glass from outside, fully unveiled only once inside.

The oldest piece in the room is the Logo lamp. Giorgio Armani created it in 1982, two decades before Armani/Casa was founded. It sparked the entire home design project that followed. Now reissued in greige-painted laminated wood. The Seine console table, from 2000, returns in a light-lacquered edition preserving its original carving. The Riesling bar cabinet arrives in a new gold version with a woven thread pattern inspired by Armani Privé dresses. The Tokyo armchair returns in hand-sewn velvet. The Winchester screen, just 90 cm tall because Armani loved to place his sofas in the center of a room and use it to screen the back of them, reintroduced this year. The Danzica coffee table arrives with a mother-of-pearl mosaic. The Baloon armchair returns in lichen green fabric inspired by one of Armani's collections. The Dustin director's chair, updated in leather, becomes a fixed piece of furniture. 2010, is updated in leather and becomes a fixed rather than foldable piece of furniture.

Armani/Casa Takes You Inside Giorgio Armani's Homes

The second floor shifts into something more intimate. Three furnished living rooms, each anchored by a large hand-painted watercolor backdrop, draw directly from the private homes of Giorgio Armani. His residence in Milan. His retreat in St. Moritz. His home on Pantelleria.

The Milan room begins with the painting of a living room wall from his Borgonuovo address. Classic chairs in Brighton jacquard, the new floor-standing Logo lamp, and the new Borgonuovo chess table, carrying the initials GA above the King's piece, furnish the space. A second scene references the staircase and sculpted black panthers. Two of the most recognizable elements of his Milanese home.

The St. Moritz room evokes a fireplace and a large window. The new Play sofa series in Bretagne fabric, Byron armchairs, and a bookcase in natural leather and Canaletto walnut. Intimate and introspective.

The Pantelleria room breathes light and sea. A painted seascape, billowing curtains, and the large modular Brando sofa, crafted from a single sheet of sandblasted light gray oak with cushions in Bombai chiné silk shantung fabric.

This is the first iteration of the project. Future Milan Design Weeks will bring new rooms, new homes, and new chapters of the same ongoing story.
